I often refer to Henry Albert and what he is doing with his truck.   He, like us is a fuel efficient fanatic and he is always trying to improve.    Through him I have learned a lot and I appreciate it.   He does not drive or think like a normal person which is a good thing.   Henry is not an expediter and runs his operation different than how we run.   Henry has his own authority and we laugh as his loads for pick up and delivery are based on running much faster than our loads are figured at.   Most of our loads are figured at an average speed of 47 mph.   Henry spec’d his 2011 Cascadia truck to run 65 mph and be in the DD15’s sweet spot.   A class 8 is figured at 6 mpg fuel surcharge and Henry was able to get a 9.009 mpg recently.   You can read about this amazing feat here.

Henry than followed with another blog explaining where all the energy (fuel) you put into your fuel tanks goes.   This blog broke down what happens with your fuel.

I have spent a lot of time talking to Henry about this subject and how it affects our fuel mileage.   Lucky for me Henry has patience with some of my goofy questions.   One of the areas to improve our fuel mileage is one I practice often and that is braking. The blog was interesting on why using your engines jake brake and also your foundation brakes effects your fuel mileage.  Letting off of the throttle causes you to lose fuel mileage as you were going to fast to begin with.  Steady on the throttle is the of the name of game and using  your cruise is not always the perfect answer.  Learn how to make hills work for you instead of against you by using your foot and now the cruise.

The blog also demonstrates why having a truck in perfect working order effects your fuel mileage.

I am always learning something from talking to Henry or reading his blogs!
