Knoxville Workshop 2011
The expedite subject is near and dear to our hearts and we can speak for hours on this one on one but to a group? Neither of us are speakers nor liked the idea of giving a speech to a group of people which was pretty overwhelming.
We were also asked if we wanted to use a power point presentation, which was a new idea to me. At the first workshop we did not use a power point presentation and we were all over the place during our talk. I quickly figured out how to make a power point and at the second workshop we followed a more natural progression. By the third workshop I think we were even able to smile a little!
We met some really awesome people last year at the workshops and the experience was enjoyable enough to over come our fears. I struggle to make the speech interesting and informative. Our goal is to give out enough information so that the participants have a stepping-stone to start asking questions of the recruiters, truck owners, and themselves to proceed with confidence.
I know we have scared some new people away when they realize this is not a 9 to 5 job, which is good as they are not out the money that it takes to get started in this business. I know that we have inspired others to step back and question themselves on why they want to get into this business and are they ready for this lifestyle. Others have gone on to buy a truck or to run for an owner and have done well. We have met a few of these people out on the road and they have thanked us for the information we have provided.
There are many others out here doing this job that are better qualified than us to speak at these events and I am sure are even better speakers. When someone else expresses an interest in speaking at the workshops we will step back and give them the stage. We have found the more people that a new person can hear or speak to the better their chances are at succeeding.
