It's a Team's Life
It's not just freight
The load offer was like any other load opportunity, pickup in one place delivers in another place, miles, dates, and pay. Then the phone rang with a few additional requirements and were we willing to go the extra mile for this load. As usual we are always up for a challenge and we said yes.
We were to pickup at a place we had never heard of and deliver the freight to a golfer we had never heard of and get pictures. It was time to educate us on this golf course, this golfer, and also the FedEx Cup. Boy did we figure out quickly we were out of the golf loop!
Brandt Snedeker just won ten million dollars and it was not a
case of luck he earned that money by being the best of the best over and over
again through out the year.
Now I am
thinking oh no, we are going to deliver to a famous person and how is he going
to treat common "truck drivers".
First though, we had to pick up at the East Lake Golf Club that is very prestigious and a gated golf club. East Lake Golf Club was originally the Atlanta Athletic Club opening in 1898 with out a golf course. The golf course was not opened until 1930 and has since hosted many tournaments.
As we pulled up to the wrought iron gates we realized this was not the common truck entrance. Our escort who led us to the front of the clubhouse to load the antique coke machine met us at the security building. We drove down the path to the clubhouse and as it came into view we realized it was gorgeous and our truck looked very nice in front of the building. We went inside to find our freight hidden in a coat closet.... Oh well this important prize would be handled like any of our freight, it was treated as if it was priceless. We blanket wrapped the machine and then secured the blankets with huge rubber bands, secured it on the dolly and off we went to the truck. We had a few onlookers watching us and admiring our truck as we loaded the coke machine onto our truck using our lift gate. Bob secured the coke machine, paperwork was signed and we headed off to the Snedeker residence.
We found Brandt's home in a modest older neighborhood and
figured out we were going to have to unload on a rather busy road.
We placed our orange cones in the street and
Bob went to the front door of the house. Bob was a little surprised when Brandt
opened the door as he looked like a teenager.
Brandt was happy to pose for pictures with us, the coke machine, and of
course the Caffcaida and the delivery went as smooth as all of our
deliveries.
After pictures we took the
antique coke machine into the house, helped Brandt to get it plugged in, placed
it against the wall, thanked Brandt and went to our next load.
Brandt Snedeker had just won ten million dollars, is ranked 9th in the official world golf ranking, he is 31 years old, married with one child, and he is a very nice guy. Brandt's wife Mandy came out holding their baby and took a couple pictures of us with the Antique Coke Machine and also of him with the antique coke machine. They seemed like a very nice down to earth couple and we enjoyed meeting them.
The pictures that were taken have been used on PGA Tours
Twitter Account and FedEx will be using them.
The pictures I believe were more important then the freight...
