We have used the Hoover Dam many times in the past before 911 and the detour seemed to take forever.   We went hiking with our daughter from Lake Meade over to the Hoover Dam and were able to see the bypass in the construction phase.   In my opinion the bridge is much more beautiful from underneath then going over the roadway.

The official name of the bypass is the Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge that is almost as long as the bridge at 2000 feet.   The bridge has a 1060’ twin-rib concrete arch, which is what we saw being constructed.

The first time we crossed the bridge I was disappointed as we cannot see much anything from the roadway and you cannot see how beautifully the bridge was constructed.   The bridge is 890’ above the Colorado River in the Black Canyon and about all we can see out the windows of the truck are rock walls.
