Friends to Family

Before I got into trucking I had friends. After I got into trucking I made new friends who have become like family. I’m sure that if I asked any truck driver that I meet, they would agree that the trucking industry is a close knit group of people who are more family to them than their own family.

There are some friends that we see and talk to on a regular basis. Then there are those that we might come across only occasionally but pick up right where they left off. Just like family, a truck driver will drop everything to help out another driver.

When we meet up with friends while out on the road we might make a meal together using a lift gate like a table, grilling out and throwing together a potluck meal. Lately, when we have our truck at our favorite shop we get together with friends who live nearby (within an hour or two from where we are) at our favorite pizza place.

We help each other with breakdowns and accidents. Wherever drivers are and whatever they are doing a truck driver is there to lend a hand, help with directions or just listen when an ear is needed. We cry when a driver or their family experience loss and we celebrate every positive accomplishment.

When I talk to friends who are not in the trucking world, I describe my trucking friends as people who live by a code of Faith, Family and Country. That is what I have found by getting into the trucking life. These are my people! It took me a long time to find my way and now that I am here I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

Thank you to all the drivers I have met along my journey so far. I look forward to meeting you and visiting with you along the way. I look forward to meeting many more drivers on my travels as well. Together we have a bond that others will never understand. For that I am eternally grateful.

Here’s to millions of safe, profitable and friend-filled miles.
