FMCSA Seat Belt Use Comments
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is asking for comments on seat belt use in commercial vehicles. This is because of recent data showing a high number of drivers not using seat belts in fatal crashes. The comment period will be open until August 12, 2024.
Existing data on the usage of safety belts and perceptions related to road safety do not capture the diversity of different types of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers in a post-coronavirus disease 2019 national emergency landscape. Understanding safety belt usage and perceptions of road safety among CMV drivers will assist FMCSA in gauging emerging trends among this cohort and will inform future messaging and communication efforts targeting CMV drivers. Eligible participants are self-identified CMV drivers residing in the United States with internet access. The collection is an online voluntary survey, with a low burden for respondents and a low cost for the Federal Government. The collection is noncontroversial and does not raise issues of concern to other Federal agencies. The results are not intended to be disseminated to the public, and the information gathered will not be used for the purpose of substantially informing influential policy decisions. The collection is targeted to the solicitation of opinions from respondents who have experience with the program or may have experience with the program in the future. Personally identifiable information is not being collected. There are no gifts or payment incentives (e.g., money or reimbursement of expenses, a token of appreciation) being provided to participants.
