Expedite Expo / Business Convention

Before we started into Expediting both Bob and I attended conventions related to our work.   These business conventions were a way to network with our colleagues and to learn ways to improve our skills.

Bob each year attended various mechanical workshops dealing with different motors, electrical systems, brakes you name it and it was on the agenda.   These conventions still continue to help us to this day keeping our truck on the road.

I attended many workshops as well across the country dealing with computers as well as management.   I picked the business conventions I wanted to attend that had workshops I wanted to sit in on, had colleagues attending I wanted to visit with, and had vendors who had products I wanted to research or had something new and exciting being shown.

Now we own our own business and the Expedite Expo / Business Convention is a convention that is a must for our business.   Our first Expedite Expo we attended was as newbies looking at starting our own expedite business.

We flew from southwest Kansas to Detroit, MI and rented a car for a few days. We had a myriad of emotions hit us… We felt as if we had hit the jackpot;  where in the United States could we find in one place so many drivers of all the expedite companies, recruiters, vendors and everyone talking about Expediting for two days in an contained area.   There really should be a huge charge for everything that is within arms reach of us during this time.

I looked this up About Career Planning and how to attend a workshop and I thought the information was fitting for the Expo:

1.             You'll want to look and feel your best, so plan your wardrobe carefully. Bring clothing you feel confident and comfortable in. Adhere to any established dress protocol.

2.             Bring comfortable shoes. You may be on your feet for many hours.

3.             Contact colleagues who will be attending to set up times to get together.

4.             Bring plenty of business cards.

5.             Use the conference as a networking opportunity. While it may be easier to talk to only those people you know, make sure to make new contacts, too.

6.             Approach small groups of people who don't seem to be in intimate conversations. Introduce yourself.

7.             Listen to your colleagues. You'll learn new ways to solve problems and do your job.

8.             Get people's business cards and send them a note after the conference.
