Eating on the Road

This weekend we purchased groceries through Instacart. This is not something that we do often so when we do it is a big deal. We placed our order and then we watched as the shopper picked the order, checked out, drove to our location and delivered the order. There were several items in the order that were not available so we needed to decide on a replacement item or removing the original item from the order altogether. Once we received the order we checked the receipt against the items received to find that all was in order. One thing that was not in order was the final cost of the items. The receipt had a dollar amount that was about $17.00 less than the amount that the app and confirmation email stated. I am still waiting on an explanation for the discrepancy.

This brought a question to mind. How many of you use an app such as Instacart to do your grocery shopping either on the road or at home? What is your favorite app to use? Do you prefer to go into a store to pick your own items or are you comfortable letting a total stranger make choices for you? We have found that in the few times we have used Instacart for food purchases that the shopper is usually very good at picking out the best produce. This is the first time that there has been a difference in the dollar amount.

Another question that came to mind was, “How often do you have restaurant food delivered to the truck? We have had restaurant food delivered to the truck a handful of times. Mainly the same as we would if we were home…pizza! Again, we prefer to get out of the truck and enjoy a relaxing meal in a restaurant with some ambiance. That way we can get some exercise walking to and from the restaurant as well as have a nice conversation in a comfortable environment. We could do the same thing in the truck; however, it is nice to get out of the truck and be around other people.

Recently, we went to a restaurant that also had entertainment. The waitstaff all had to audition to be part of the “cast” that sang and could also serve a table. It was very entertaining. In the process, we met a young couple from the area as well as a traveling purchaser that we were able to talk with. Had we stayed in our truck that extra human interaction would not have happened. And we also enjoyed listening to our server sing a song as we were on our way out.

Whichever way you decided to get your groceries or restaurant food...

Here’s wishing you millions of safe, profitable and delicious miles!
