Darn that is a good-looking truck!

Most weekends finds us cleaning up the truck and getting ready for a new week.   We spend a lot of time making sure our truck looks great and stays in good mechanical condition and this attention to detail starts on day one of ownership.

Our Cascadia is a shining example of our business motto, which is to put our best effort into each and every day.   I read an autobiography about Eddie Rickenbacker and I will include his constitution at the bottom of my blog.   His constitution while he worked at Eastern Air Lines can easily be used in our trucking business.   We “sell” our services everyday as competent truck drivers as well as business owners.

Keeping out truck and us ready for a new week takes dedication not only to the truck but also to us.   Each week we take time to wash clothes, restock our refrigerator, and clean the truck inside and out.   During the week we maintain the truck but on weekends we get out the polish rags.

Most often while Bob is working on the outside I am working on the inside.   In such a small space it is easy to get clutter and I do not get along well with clutter.   I rearrange and rearrange trying to find a place for everything and this is a never-ending battle.   It does not take long to get the truck sparkling on the inside and I then have time to get caught up on my never ending supply of paperwork that needs to be copied and filed away.

While I am cleaning the inside Bob is cleaning the outside.   While he works away outside he is also examining the truck for damage or wear and tear.   He knows every bump, scratch, and shiny spot on this truck.   I am sure the Cascadia will be like the last truck with over 800,000 miles on it people will still be asking about our “new truck”.

Take the time to read Eddie's constitution and if you have not read his book I highly recommend it.

My Constitution

April 1938

Eddie Rickenbacker

(1)    My goal will be to do a good job and sell, sell, sell, Eastern Air Lines at all times.

(2)    I will plan my work and work my plan each day arranging details in advance as far as possible.

(3)    I will make a business of arriving on duty on time and then think of nothing but doing my best to help make Eastern Air Lines the best airline in the world.

(4)    I will spend my time just the same as I would spend my money, as it is the only thing I have to invest, and I will keep a strict accounting of every hour.

(5)    I will try to do nothing at any time which will undermine my health, as clear thinking and effective action depend on feeling fit.

(6)    I will stress as well as I can and keep my mental attitude right never allowing myself to think of my work as a “GRIND” but rather as a pleasure and a privilege.

(7)    I will endeavor to give careful thought as to the needs of our company and its customers.

(8)    I will avoid misrepresentation as dishonest and poor policy

(9)    I will be fair competition but be firm, using diplomacy, remembering a “knocker never wins, a winner never knocks.”

(10)I will always keep in mind that I am in the greatest business in the world, and I can serve humanity more completely in my line of endeavor then in any other.

(11)I will become an expert by continuing to study and learn.

(12)I realize that most of the salesmanship is “MAN,” and that success depends on the superiority of Eastern Air Lines’ service.

“A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.”
