Once we made the commitment to speak and the announcements were made we knew we had to be there.  We were out on the west coast and as the deadline approached we started turning down loads that would keep us in the same area or that would take us further west.  We finally made it to Dallas but could not get any offers going east.  We started east on our own after turning down some very nice loads going the wrong way and finally went out of service.

On the way through Arkansas the check engine light came on and truck lost some pulling power.  We both immediately knew there went an injector.  We called ahead to the Freightliner/ CAT dealer in Texarkana and they could not see us till the next day.  We then called the Kenworth dealer who was also a CAT dealer and they were able to see us immediately.  As we knew, an injector was out, so they replaced that injector and by evening we were ready to go again.  We still had 700 miles to go and now our time was even shorter and no time left to try and pickup and deliver a load.  We finally made it to Indianapolis after lunch and were able to check into our room and get cleaned up for our presentation.

On the way I questioned why in the world would we do this?  We turned down several nice paying loads and we would not be available for load while at the workshop.  We had to dead head over 900 miles to be at this workshop.  We stopped in Effingham at the Petro and had breakfast with Terry O’Connell and as we stood talking a couple approached us.  The lady spoke up and said “We were at the workshop in Knoxville, TN and after we had our questions answered  we are in a Sprinter and we are having a blast” they then followed up with “We just wanted to say Hi and tell you thank you so much for talking with us.”

That was the reminder of why we deadheaded over 900 miles and turned down those loads.
