The atmosphere at the Chrome Shop Mafia, Guilty by Association Truck Show was different then any show we have attended.   In some ways it was like a carnival with a midway….   The trucks were amazing with many of them being out of world and looking like trailer babies.

We were first amazed by the amount of people in attendance and there not being a lot of structure to the exhibits.   It was a very relaxed atmosphere and if there was room for a truck or a vendor there was one stuck in that spot on both sides of the road.    Music was playing in the background, food vendors, kiddie tractor pulls and all of this was outside on a beautiful day.   We missed the Special Olympics Convoy which was held in the morning but were told there were over 140 trucks involved.

Neither of us are big fans of the un-aerodynamic trucks and the excessive display of chrome and bad boy trucking.   We did enjoy looking over the trucks and seeing the creativeness of the trucks owners.   Many of the trucks did not appear to be DOT legal in any sense or form….   Trailer babies.

I saw one truck that had me going back more then once as it was so unique and was pulling a polished bull wagon.     We were first pulled in by the bull wagon as we are very familiar with these trailers as Bob and I have worked on them in our past.   This bull wagon was an older one but someone had taken the time to polish it.   We could not even imagine the time involved in this project.

Next was the truck that pulled this wagon and it was a Rat Truck…. Now I have seen rat cars but not a rat truck.   Definition of a rat vehicle is; Most Rat Rods are just the bare essentials that are needed to be driven, the rat rod is a visualization of the idea of function over form and uses any spare parts that will hold the vehicle together.

The truck was amazing and while I admired the creativity of putting the truck together once again I could not imagine driving the truck nor pulling onto a customer’s property driving this vehicle.   It looked like a rusty heap that had seen better days.   The idea of putting cattle in that trailer with the rat rod truck pulling it would have scared me to death.

We really enjoyed attending the Chrome Shop Mafia Guilty by Association Show and seeing all of the ingenuity of the truck builders.
