Changing Seasons

We are coming into a new season where temperatures can fluctuate wildly. When this happens we run the risk of getting into what is commonly referred to as cold and flu season. Being truck drivers on the road means that we cannot call in sick when we are not feeling well. We have to be at that pick up or delivery on time and with a sunny disposition. What do we do? How do we get to feeling better quickly?

In our case, we try to carry common cold medicines that are legal to carry. We do not drive while under any type of over the counter or prescription medications that have ingredients that could affect our ability to drive in a safe manner. What are some things that you have in the truck to help you get through cold and flu season? When I get sick my throat gets very sore. We have lemon juice and honey in the truck. When I was a kid my mom would mix lemon and honey and I would talk a couple teaspoons every few hours. What are some home remedies that you can use in the truck? What works for you?

Have any of you needed to use a TeleDoc service? We have been fortunate enough not to need such an organization so far. But if we did, who would we use? Who do you use?

Do you try to go home? Or do you stay in the truck? Do you continue to work? Or do you lay low? We both recently came down with colds. First Dave and I followed a day later. We had a good supply of Ibuprofen & Tylenol as well as Mucinex and cough drops. After a week we both started feeling better. However, Dave seems to be going into a relapse.

Have you ever been so sick or dehydrated that you ended up going to the emergency room? Fortunately, we have not had that experience. Do you have proper health insurance to cover an ER visit? Having insurance is just one more aspect of being in business. Health insurance is a way to protect you and your business.

Try to stay healthy by eating properly and taking vitamins and supplements to keep your immune system strong.

Here’s wishing you millions of safe, profitable and HEALTHY miles!
