Cascadia – Nasty Surprise

When we get questions like “What surprised you the most after you purchased your Cascadia?” and “What nasty shock did you get after purchasing the Cascadia?” I am impressed with the person asking.  They are doing their homework before buying their next truck.

We spent two years checking out trucks and asking questions of manufacturers and also drivers and O/O.  We did not want to make a $100,000 dollar mistake and buy a truck that did not match our operation.  We recognize that not all trucks are equal to all tasks and we were very specific in what we wanted in our next truck.

First we analyzed our operation, miles driven, weight hauled, and areas driven.  We deadhead a lot and our freight is usually light.  Even though a team would drive the truck we picked our miles are very low and we wanted a truck and motor to last a long time and still be profitable.  We wanted fuel mileage and a comfortable truck to drive and maneuver.

After we had narrowed the truck down to a Cascadia we still researched motors and decided on the DD13.  Next we toured the plant and learned how the motors are made and the research that went into the creation of the DD motors.  Then we had to wait for the Cascadia short hood to come into production so we could have a 22’ box and stay legal.

Everything finally came together and we bought our truck.  Through our research and asking question there were no nasty surprises.  The Cascadia is a joy to drive, the DD13 is so quiet that when I first started driving I had to look at the gauges to see if the motor was still running, going down mountains with the 3-stage compression brake is a no stress situation, the extended oil intervals puts money back in our pocket.

We have had our truck a little over a year with 150,000 miles driven and we would buy this truck again in a second.  To all of you who are looking at purchasing a new truck keep asking questions as that is how you will make the right choice for your operation as we did for ours.   Once again I appreciate all of the questions about our truck and why we made the choices we did.
