When someone asks us this I know they are asking a serious question as they just cannot imagine it.   The people who ask this question of usually drivers for truck load carriers.   To them it is all about how much weight they can haul, how many miles they can run, and how fast can they deliver.

To us it is not about the weight or actually how fast we can get the freight moved.   We often move items as light as an envelope or up to 13,000lbs.   We are exclusive use so the shipper is assured that once the envelope or freight is loaded onto our truck and the truck is sealed, the doors will not be opened until we reach our delivery.   We are scheduled to deliver averaging about 47 mph which gives us ample time to drive our customary 57 mph across country.   We have a scheduled time to deliver with the customer and the customer expects us at that time, not a day early, or a day late. “On time every time” is the motto.

We are also asked “How many miles a week do you get?” That is also a foreign question as we are paid on a percentage of what the customer pays.   We might haul one load that pays $2.00 a mile and the next $1.20 a mile.   We look at the income per week not the miles per week.   We prefer less miles more income!   The least miles we run the less wear and tear on our truck.   I never have a clue how many miles we run a week, but I do know what I want to average a week for income.

So yes we can make money in our “Little Truck” and nope I do not have a clue how many miles a week we run!
