And they survived…

We were about ¼ mile from entering our destination to pick up an early morning load when everything changed quickly.   I was asleep and heard what I thought was a blown tire and I asked Bob who was driving at the time if this had happened.   He said no I think a car just hit us…   I immediately stuck my head out of the curtains and all I could see was the lights of emergency personnel vehicles.    I then wondered if a police car had run into us and Bob said no that is not what happened.

Long story short the people within the car were talking as they were cut from the car and taken to a local hospital.   We are fine as the car did not move the truck when it hit us.   The car was involved in a high-speed police chase and the driver lost control of the car and slammed into the concrete light pole and then into us.   The officers thought the car was probably in access of 85 MPH when the car first hit the pole.

All of the police involved in the chase are the eyewitnesses and their comment was you guys were sure in the wrong place at the wrong time.   We were very impressed with all of the emergency personnel and how we were treated.   They were very professional and courteous and were concerned about our welfare.   They helped us go over the truck to make sure everything was sound and that we could continue on our way.   They gave us phone numbers of whom we needed to talk to as well as cards with information on them of contacts.   Both Bob and I felt that we could not have been treated any better from the fire chief, the local city police, the border patrol, and the California Highway Patrol.

We have made arraignments to get our truck into Craftsmen of Saint Louis as they are a one-stop shop and can repair the lift gate, the box, the panels and our signs.   I will let you know how all of this turns out as it happens.

On a side note it was funny how many of the officers wanted to know about the truck, about what we do and our life style.   On of the officers is getting ready to retire and he was very interested in expediting with his wife.   Another officer’s commented that we must change our oil often, which led to talk about the DD13 and the 50,000-mile oil change intervals.   One of the younger police officers was amazed that we had so many miles on the truck and where we had left from that morning.   All in all they were a great group of guys who asked some very interesting questions.
