Several of us started Saturday by helping to pack goody bags, which always has a lot of laughing and carrying on.   This year was no different with lots of good-natured teasing of each other with the men who are helping fairing the worst.   The men most enjoy it as they are back each year to help out and they give as good as they get.

The helpers next split up to help with all of the other details to get ready for the event and I was delegated to the registration table.   This is a job I enjoy as I get to meet and often talk for a bit to the registrants and this year we had a couple very special guests.

Ciara is a young lady researching the trucking industry and she brought her family to MATS to see all of the trucks and to meet the many women who she has chatted with on Facebook.   She was an instant celebrity with all of them women wanting to get their picture taken with her.   She immediately struck me, as a young lady who knows what she wants to do and that she is sponge soaking up as much information as possible.   What a treat for all of to spend time in her presence.

I was also lucky enough to finally meet Joyce Brenny in person and the best thing I can say about her is she is REAL.   I enjoyed her speech, her background, and where she is now in her life and where she is going.   Joyce will post her speech on the Women in Trucking Facebook page and I would encourage all of you to read it.   Joyce started out as a driver, dispatchers, logs, and safety and then started her own trucking company with an impressive less then 10 percent turnover. She is serving as the first women chairman of the Minnesota Trucking Association.

One of the best perks of being on the Women in Trucking Board of Directors is getting to meet and shake hands with all of the safe million mile women drivers.   What an honor to be in these ladies company and many tears where shed with the four million and up ladies crossed the stage.

Sandi Soendker, Landline magazine shared her pictures with me and wrote a nice blog in the Pork Chop diaries each day from MATS.
