Product Review/Endorsement
I’ve been watching this bottle for a couple years and finally decided to get it. A company called Guyot Designs originally produced it, but they didn’t keep up with demand, so it was usually a backorder item across the internet. My guess is that they were trying to get Nalgene to buy their idea. The bottle is now listed as part of the product line up at the Nalgene website, but it is not stocked in their online store. I ordered from Amazon.com. What makes this bottle special is that it is stainless steel and has no combustible, meltable parts on the bottle, and it is single walled, so it can be used on a fire or stove to boil water. The cap threads match the rest of the Nalgene wide mouth line, so accessories like water filters that fit other Nalgene bottles also fit this bottle. The idea is one tool with maximum uses. Guyot Designs started off with the idea, because Nalgene only made plastic bottles, and there was a market for combining stainless steel with the popularity of Nalgene accessories.
The few negative reviews seemed to be pinhole leaks in the seam welds or leaking caps. I leak tested mine and found no problems. I even placed the partially filled bottle in the sun to add a little internal pressure, and I had no leaks upside down or right side up. This bottle holds 38 oz. not to be confused with the 32 oz. bottle. The 32 oz. bottle has a narrower, tapered base that isn’t as stable for standing upright on a campstove.
Great bottle for camping or a bugout bag. A little on the expensive side, but I would splurge on one at this price. If the price were to come way down, I would consider additional bottles.
