New Glass

The original windshield lasted 580,000 miles. Seven years of pitting and abrasion weathered the glass so slowly I didn’t realize how hazy the view was getting. A heavy chunk of rubber fixed that. Over the years I’ve collected a few nicks and chips with the largest crack being less than a quarter inch long. The chunk of rubber left a snaking, circular line something like an upside down question mark from the top edge of the glass and down around the rearview mirror. Safelite Auto Glass says they can sometimes fix a crack that is the size of a dollar bill. This crack was about four dollars worth. Monday afternoon I called Progressive to start a claim, and they turned me over to a Safelite shop near by. I was in the shop Tuesday at 0900, and I was out by 1000.
