Fuel for Thought
Deep Freeze
Early in the week I made my way from Nebraska to Dallas for jury duty. In Oklahoma I was diverted to Tulsa for a dry run that covered most of my deadhead miles to Dallas. Jury duty on Wednesday took 45 minutes. And to think I turned down a $1000 load to make $6 of jury duty. From Wednesday I was getting nibbles from the load gods. Thursday as the diagonal line of ice moved across the country, I got an unusual booking--a Monday pickup in Dallas going to Montana. My gamble was that the long lead time would give time for the storm to blow through. An inch of ice was delivered Thurday night, and the plan is for the warmer weather Sunday afternoon and Monday morning to melt the ice before the Monday afternoon pickup. So far the temperature has remained below the mid-twenties.
