Clunk
I was lucky that the exhaust pipe came loose and dropped after I parked. It sounded like someone knocked on the back door of the van. No one was there, so I thought it was birds playing on the roof. Later when I moved the van to a different part of the parking lot, I could hear a grinding noise. The rear end of the exhaust pipe was still held up by the hanger, but the front end was sitting on the ground. I had been watching that particular joint, because the clamp was rusty. I didn’t fix it in time. The two sections of pipe still fit together, eventhough part of the pipe is rusting away. I cut the bottom off of a tall, round candy tin (visualize a tennis ball can). With tin snips I split the can down the side and then rolled it around the pipe connection and wired it in place. I went to an auto supply store for a couple hose clamps to hold everything tight. This repair will hold things together while I find the proper parts to make a permanent fix.
