YOU HAVE TO QUIT EXPEDITING - WHAT WILL YOU DO ??

Hypothetically, for one reason or another, you can no longer expedite.

Starting tomorrow, what would you do ??

Maybe you don't have to work anymore.

Or, you return to your previous profession.

Me, I sell the house and live on my boat. With global warming now upon us, I am assuming Lake Erie will never freeze again.

I am at retirement age, and I am too spoiled from expediting to return to the workforce. I can get by.

This is serious post so please answer as honestly as possible.

Be safe

Part time I would sell trucks. The rest of the time I would fish and go to races. Some amount of time would be on ebay selling all the crap I have so I can keep fishing.

Very Honest answer

I´d go into some other type of trucking or find something that I liked doing, or I´d just retire and I´d spend most of my time someplace warm all year round.

I would move in with my eldest daughter in SW Pa, managing her house & 2 little girls, while she attends nursing school, & her husband works on the computer. I'd probably tend bar, or sling hash, in my free time, while I figure out the next chapter. At this point, retirement is not an option, unless I'm willing to move to that appliance box under an overpass that Mrs Moot is holding in reserve...

Terry's summer home has plenty of space for us all.We can cut grass on his 25 acres,Cheri can sling her hash,Terry needs a manservant, his van will need to be washed, perhaps one of us might help Terry manage his finances,as he will need a financial planner.

Pimps are not welcome however KW's Escort service can operate out of Terry's guest house.

THe wife and I enjoy the traveling and indestry (still) I think I would pursue my class 'A' and continue driving for a while.

If not, it's back to ballistics or programming :)

I'll park my trailer next to the river and kayak and backpack, hopefully in northern TN or southern ky.

Hedgehog asked for a serious answer. Here is mine.

The only thing that would take Diane and me out of expediting is an injury or health setback. Our business plans and reserves built up from expediting income are sufficient to keep us in the business and profitable under even the worst economy or industry scenerios.

A health-related event that forced us out of the business would not change our retirement plans. It would bring them about ahead of schedule. That is to build a home on land we own in Wisconsin and live out our days there. The home will be built with our declining health and deaths in mind. Just as we spec'ed our truck to meet our needs. We'll spec the house to have everything essential on the first floor, wide doors for wheelchairs, handicaped-accessible shower, etc. For income, we'll find jobs in the community and work as our health allows. Or, if we have enough money to not work, we'll be active in the community and volunteer as our health allows.

If the health change is instant, we'll buy an Airstream trailer to park on the land and live there while the house is being built, and then sell it when we move in.

What follows expediting? For us it will be declining health and death. We hope to be as ready for that as we were for expediting when we entered the business. No coffin specs required. Cremation plans are already in place.

RE: YOU HAVE TO QUIT EXPEDITING - WHAT WILL YOU DO

Barbara and I have decided to quit expediting and retire. The truck is up for sale (see our ad in the EO classifieds) or it will be traded in for a tractor. I intend to continue driving on a regional and semi full-time basis. I love driving and see no reason to quit, mainly because I don't play golf! Barbara is off the road permanently unless I have a trip to an interesting location (read, good shopping). She is also looking forward to spending time with the grandchildren and other relatives. We also want to spend more time at our place in Hilton Head and on the boat with our beachbum friends!
We have enjoyed expediting and had a 4 year plan for it. We made it to 3 yrs and 8 months, so it is time to leave with a lot of good memories and travels. We do want to thank all who have helped us and been good friends in expediting at FedEx and on the road. Especially to Coco and Todd for being such close and wonderful friends. And our thanks to the Caffees, Jack Dixon, and Hal.
See you down the road.
George and Barbara :) :*

I responded I would retire next to a river and kayak and backpack, perhaps not in that trailer.

You may have been serious, but, you didn't answer his question.

We would have to move to Texas where we are looking at property and start our cattle ranch with a camel thrown in for good measure. No way could we go back to a normal job we love our lifestyle to much. Barb and George you are going to be missed out here, but I am sure Barb will enjoy being at home.

Does that include a crypt in the basement?

I am not sure I could retire. I think I would first go after my dream job - in an orange juice factory, but I just dont know if I could concentrate.

After that I would try to be a tailor, but I am not really suited for it...mainly because it's a so-so job.

Then I would try to be a chef -- figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I I don't know if I have the thyme.

Next I would try working in a muffler factory but that may be too exhausting.

I might try to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work would be very draining.

I would then attempt to be a deli worker, but any way I slice it, I don't know if I could cut the mustard.

Maybe I would become a professional fisherman, but I might not be able to live on my net income.

Maybe I would go to work at Starbucks, but I would have to quit because it would be the the same old grind each day.

SO MAYBE I WOULD RETIRE - I'M PERFECT FOR THE JOB!

No need for a crypt...they are going to be cremated! But the specs
for the urn, to hold the ashes, will probable be rather lengthy.:+ :+
