Same exact coverage and discounts as you stated. $280 per month or $3,360 per year. These are round numbers, exact monthly is like $279.80 or so. Insured thru CIS using Progressive.

It would cost nothing extra to run for multiple carriers. I did that for about 18 months when I started. Same rates. They did go up at renewal this year about $15 per month. Was $265 last year before my August 2013 renewal.

A lot depends on your deductible and the declared value of your van. I raised my deductible to $1,000 this year and lowered the value of my van because of its getting older and has over 325,000 miles on it. It is a 2006 Chevrolet Express 3500.

Oh, I'm getting 17-17.5 mpg. Lots easier to make money compared to the Pesky example of 10 mpg and $7,200 for insurance. I couldn't do that!!!!

The cube that load one has on you described isn't running illegal or overweight. That isn't allowed and the gentleman that operates it I believe is of our nationality. Not that it matters but he definitely isn't running the same way the OP is griping about.

The market will take care of them or the market will take care of us.
I suggest that, in the end, the outcome will be all of us will "be adjusted".

The worst of the trucks will fall to the wayside.
The guys that "won't run for less than $XX" will run less.
The guys running $50,000+ vans will be making whatever adjustments necessary to keep food on the table. Or they'll be off the road.

You'll never convince these rabid "cubists" that they aren't all bad. We're starting to hear stories of cube van owners waking up in the middle of the night to find Flying J truck stop signs burning in their front yards.

So if you're sitting in Laredo with one next to you, and Julie calls you with a load offer, but you find out that you didn't get it because the yellow penske van next to you got it and was running it for like, .70 cpm, will it still be alright?
If they run that cheap then they are doing exactly what I want them to do because they wont do it for long. and I don't go to laredo or Dallass.

Somebody's lying to you... my insurance per van is less than half of that.

Are you leased onto one carrier, exclusively, or several? My friends ins. rates were cheap until his policy ran out and renewed with the higher rates....Ken knows exactly who I am talking about..

I imagine you are added to Load-1"s fleet policy.
Best of my recollection, carriers have to be covered for $1M auto liab on trucks over 10K GVWR. They have the option to require every single truck they bring on to bring their own $1M policy with the carrier listed. But if the carrier has company trucks they have to have the policy anyway.
Don't get me wrong, the carrier pays PER truck based on the trucks and drivers in the fleet AT renewal. And those rates vary just like every other vehicle on the road. But the benefit also is that if there's a crash by an o/o of a big truck, there's no risk that the liability insurance lapsed from non payment 3 days prior. It's safer. Not cheaper, but safer.

I worked a wreck a few months ago that involved a pesky. The vehicle? It should have been crushed years ago, phantom plates, and obviously no insurance.
The driver? He didn't speak a word English, no license, and it appeared he hadn't slept in in a couple days and it was questionable if he was in the country legally. So yeah with that said, that cheap freight is good money. Luckily he didn't maim or kill someone.

Unfortunately you cant regulate greed and the almighty dollar is what drives someone that can buy a half dozen vehicles, underpay the driver, and let him hang from a rail when he gets caught the broker plays stupid. Our and complaints to the FMCSA will fall on deaf ears as its easier for them to harass us legit carriers. As for the multi model lay off the bad press as I'm one of them and I as well as most follow the rules.

if you don't mind sharing what's your Liability limit and how much cargo do you carry for that amount? I carry 1 million and 100k cargo, comp, collision, rental reimbursement, Road side assist, hospitalization and it cost me about $5,200 per unit all in. no accidents or tickets. cdl discount and years in business discount included.

I have that same coverage. C.I.S. is my agent. Mine is about 2k less than yours per van ( I currently insure 3). I don't know why, maybe it is the state in which you reside. That does make a difference. I can add additional carriers for $20.00 each. The nonsense going around about what it costs for "multi carrier" insurance is, for the most part, a load of BS.

Each additional carrier is a one time 20.00 fee. That's it. I have renewed 3 times. it went down the second time. It stayed the same the third time.

If he shops that insurance a bit, he might be able to bump up that "day rate" to something respectable.

When a mosquito is buzzing around me, I hope he lands and bites, so I can swat him. But if 2,000 do it at the same time, something gives.

I do shake my head when I see drivers whoring themselves out but that seems to be the new Amerika. Before I started in expediting I had 3 semi day cabs pulling containers locally the place i was contracted to said we had to cut our rate in HALF. Couldn't find any work locally that paid any good so I sold the 3 trucks and paid cash for the one I got now. But i am constantly looking for something better. so i can leave the trucking to the *****s.

If you guys want to DO something about these trucks instead of just whining on a forum here's an idea. Supposedly they are big into auto freight and many are based in Chicago, correct? Then I would suggest stopping and visiting the weigh stations between Chicago and Detroit and talking with the DOT cops and tell them point blank what is going on in your mind. Take some pics with you of these 350 and 450 (3500,4500) trucks with the dual wheels and the under 10 gvw markings and point out how limited they are under 10,000 lbs and your suspicions that they are mislabeled, overloaded or both.

You could also get the scale phone numbers and if you are following one approaching make a call to them or the state police.

Just remember that the guy you get popped may be running for the same carrier as you do.

Good idea but bad karma the dot will eventually get them now if ya see em weaving or notice they are rubbing rubber to steel then all bets are off!
Do scale houses even have listed phone numbers?
