You have an excellent point Geo, and if all the drivers did that then freight would back up on docks. Big business would start talking to lawmakers and changes would get made with HOS. Plus with freight backed up that would mean increase in rates and expedited shipments, in theory.

Yep we are willing to shut down....Not for the strike though, we are closer to home than we have been in 7 weeks, so we're headed there. Be back out on Wed, and hopefully all this strike nonsense will be a thing of the past.

the way I look at it is I am going to play it by ear, I know something needs to be done in the trucking industry or O/o's will be a thing of the past, and if the shutdown happens I will do my part It isn't going to hurt me to stop for a day and see how it goes but come Wednesday and no one banding together I will roll on, I figure there is a 50-50 chance that this thing will happen and I do believe it will have a positive effect for everyone that drives a truck, I am not so sure that the truckers have the backbone to take a stand and fight for what is right like they would in the past, lets face it todays drivers are just not cut from the same cloth as the highly independent ones from the past

If you want the government to bring down the price of fuel I can see only 3 options:

- lower or eliminate the federal gasoline tax.

- invade Canada and take over oil operations so all oil exports go to the U.S.

- encourage domestic oil exploration and the recovery of know oil reserves by easing environmental regulations and expanding and building new refineries.


There is a forth option, but it may take some time:

- get that Jurasic Park thing going. Clone millions of those large funny looking animals like dinosaurs, bronchial asthmatics and stinky soreasses. Then herd them all into the Grand Canyon and cover them with dirt, wait a few million years and then tap the keg. Instant earl. Black shinola. Texas toast. Yee Haw!

You got that right. We would have to come up with some plan for the interim, like banning the manufacturing of hockey pucks.

Just remember: When all you leased folks shut down and then get a notice in a few weeks that your lease has been terminated, you'll have plenty of time to sit around.

what do you mean , i dont know about everyone else but the co. we are leased with would not pull my lease even if i took a month off. have before and im still there. i would like to think if you have a good relationship, they will let you do what you decide or atleast that is the experience i have had over my 8 yrs. in expediting.

Here's another thought: What if your carrier decides to take part in the strike and leaves you sitting in Timbuktu in the snow for 5 days, regardless of your own plans? "Sorry, we're on strike. We're not accepting any freight for the next several days....."

well i am pretty sure they would notify us of their intentions with as much time as possible and if not then i would just deal with it. we tend to try to stay liquid enough to make it through just about anything. in this business if you dont learn to save for a rainy day you cant save yourself. so basically i would treat them. with just as much respect as they have showed me. we have a philophisy that when you need to go, rather it be moving to a better location or going home there is a point when you dont wait any longer. you reach in that ass pocket and go before it costs you more, and if going home just simply because we do appreciate some quality of hometime. its all about being prepared to take whatever this industry throws at you.

I've been through 2 strikes in my driving time. It didnt help then, because everyone did not shut down. It wont work this time either, because everyone will not shut down. Until there is a unified order for a shut down, we are spitting in the wind.
