Cut it a little close getting out of Quebec fuel prices. Took 25.75 gallons after fuel light

How close was I to empty, sprinter drivers?

Must be a bad trend today haha. A very rare fuel light fill up for me an hour ago. Took 26.63 gallons in the 26 gallon tank.
I always forget if the reserve is 1 or 2 gallons and if reserve is in Addition to the 26 or part of it. I hope I never have to find out the hard way

The fuel tank capacity is "about" 26.4 gallons, which includes the reserve of "about" 2.8 gallons. Meaning, the orange triangle lights up when you have "about" 2.8 gallons remaining.

It's safe to count on 50 miles remaining when the light comes on. The sensor for that is at the rear of the tank, so if you are low and heading down a long hill, or parked facing downward on a ramp while getting loaded or unloaded, the light will come on a gallon of two sooner than if you are on level ground.

Once you have any black showing between the bottom white block and the needle, you are "about" empty and if you go more than 10 or 12 miles you'll be running on the fuel that's in the fuel lines and filter, and can expect to put in 26.5 or more gallons, depending on if you stop when the pump shuts off or if you add a little more to top it off. 26.8something is my record.

Running it down to the orange triangle fairly often will certainly help keep the tank cleaned out of algae and moisture, and regularly adding a fuel treatment like Power Service helps.

Yes it was very close! I bet if you run out its not cheap to get the van started. The older ones you might be ok, but the new ones I wouldn't take the chance.

If you run out of fuel in an 03 Sprinter, it's a PITA to get it started again. You have to prime the fuel filter by hand (a funnel helps) as there is no electric pump at the tank-end of the system. Even then after it starts it'll probably die on you again because you've got air in the lines. So you then have to crank and crank up to 30 seconds to bleed the air from the system. That kind of cranking is really hard on a battery, so you want it to be a good one and not an old one, and it can flat burn out a starter. The central consensus among pre-04 Sprinter owners who have run out of fuel is... Do Not Run Out Of Fuel. Ever.

For the 04 and later Sprinters, you turn the ignition switch to accessory position for 30 sec. And do it 3 times. That bleeds the air from the lines. Then just crank the little princess up. Running out of fuel sets 3 engine codes, but something like a Scangauge rest them easily.

No, I have never run out of fuel.
