From another forum:
Not too long ago there was a car pulled over by 3 squad cars - this was on North avenue, and I slowed down while passing. I couldn't switch lanes because there was a car in the left lane. I got waved over by one of the officers, they grilled me as to what I was doing in the area

"I'm not in the area, I'm driving home".
"Do you know the people in the car? Are you friends with them? Why are you slowing down?"
"I slowed down so I wouldn't hit any of you walking around your squad cars"
"It looked like you were talking to the people in that car... what were you saying?"
"What? I didn't talk to anyone."
"Have you been drinking tonight?"
"No"
"Do you have any drugs or alcohol in the car?
"No"
"Do you have any weapons with you or in the vehicle?"
"No"
"Are you friends with those guys?"
"What guys?"
"How do you you know those guys in the car?"
"I don't know anyone in any car, I was driving home and I slowed down because your cars are half in the road and and you're walking in the road and I didn't want to hit a police officer."

"What are you doing here?"

"YOU PULLED ME O V E R !!!"

They kept me there for 20 minutes, and I found out that my licence plate light was out, but they didn't issue me a ticket for it...

The police can be unpredictable at times. And I am probably way more likely to be hassled by them than to be acosted by a robber.

Im guessing most decent people are fine with cops. Its the 5 percent who don't that give the rest of us a bad name.

That's amusing, and 20 years ago, likely right, but that was before they decided they were soldiers and the Bill of Rights was declared dead. Now, it's getting close to impossible to not hate cops and still call yourself a decent person.

Decent people don't hate people that they don't know. Many people are becoming concerned with the power that governments at all levels are taking from the people and the role that police departments are or will play. They do understand that there is no way that every individual police officer is going to be part of the problem.

I consider myself a decent person and I don't hate cops. We even had two cops share our Thanksgiving meal with us.

And you didn't get tased? They didn't yell, "PASS THE GRAVY, MAGGOT?"
Then you did have something for which to be thankful--that they didn't act like typical cops, like the cop in the OP did.

My oldest son was a cop for 5 years in New Orleans, and I always told him the biggest difference between the cops and the "bad" guys was what side of the bars they look through.

It was the POOlice in Nazi Germany that rounded up the political dissidents for Hitler. Against the German constitution, but they did it anyway. The fact of the matter is the poolice will do whatever they are told to do in order to keep their jobs.

You are full of bs you have no way of knowing that all cops will just follow orders to keep their jobs

I don't think it is just some cops with issues. We have some posters with them too.

Police officers knowingly violate the constitution evry single day, everytime someone is charge with possesing a weapon, violates the 2nd ammendment.

4rth ammendment volations are so common now they aren't even considered a good defense stratedgy anymore. It used to be evidence found doing an illegal search was thrown out, this was done in an effort to force the poolice to do their jobs and respect the constitituion. Well, to get around that the courts have expanded what constitutes 'legal' searches. Notice the 4rth ammendment hasn't changed, the governemnt just ignores it.

Police enforced 'hate speech' chasing christian pamphelteers out of a muhamedan rally held on public grounds in dearborne mi.

In New York city police rountinly stop people and frisk them, them program is bragged about they even call it "stop and frisk".

The sad thing about US police is that they think its OK to do cuase they're the police. DUH, the point of the constition is to protect the people from the Governemnt, whom the police work for.

You are hopessly nieve if you think the average cop is gonna risk his job to do the right thing, they won't and more importantly they don't.

On the federal level, if you **** of the wrong person they flip through the 9million pages of the CFR and find something to burn you with that most people wouldn't know is 'illegal' in the first,

And yes they're cops to.

And some peoole have lived a sheltered life.....

You have no idea what kind of life i have lived in the past. No where close to sheltered. I have had cops let me go when they had every right to haul me to jail. To even attempt to dump all cops into one mold is on its face ludicrous.

Xiggi,

If during those tmes you were stealing, raping vadalizing or endangering your nieghbors through reckless behavior. The police should have charged you, we pay them to keep the barbarians at bay.

But if you were doing one of the millions of things that don't infringe on you nieghbors rights nor endanger them, then the police shouldn't have been bugging you in the first.

Which is the point, they hen peck the hell out of us nice people, while ignoring wild people such as yourself.

Did you know you can go to jail for selling eggs to your nieghbor?

I got a ticket once for not speeding. I also got one once for running a stop sign concealed in a bush. I asked the cop why doesn't he have the city trim back the bush, his reply with a grin was, "because then id have to find another place to write tickets",

BTW, I used to be PRO Police, my dad was a cop for 13 years. But now I do my best to just avoid them, they can't be trusted.

Feds are even worse, at least you can bring political pressure on the locals. The feds act with impunity.

I'm a white dude btw.

I suppose a lot depends on location. The cops around here seem decent enough, at least I've never had a problem with Villa Park's Finest and I've lived here off and on (mostly on) since 1960.

Chicago, on the other hand---- they have a serious problem. No two ways about it. It's even been in the news. Half the department seems to be on a power trip, and the other half seems to be psycho. Getting pulled over by a blue-and-white unit in Chicago is probably going to wreck your day. The Opening Post seems about right. Especially if you're on North Avenue roughly between Damen and Cicero. The neighborhood isn't great, and the cops---- are something else.

The OP is worthless as it's just unverified text that may or may not bear any semblance of reality. The original blanket statement thesis is also so far from reality it can't be given credibility. Decent people, for the most part, appreciate cops because cops, for the most part, are decent people. There are bad ones just as there are bad ones in every profession but unlike lawyers the majority of all other professions are good people.

There are some really good medications on the market now. There are some really good therapists. I'd hope to find one or both if I automatically hated an entire group of people that I don't even know just because of their occupation.

The post-er said it was the DuPage County Sheriff, a little west of Carol Stream. Before he revealed that, someone else guessed the same area you did, though.

OK. Quickie note for all you out-of-towners. North Avenue (IL Rte 64), West of Schmale Road in Carol Stream to about Rte. 59 is something of a speed trap. The cops from Carol Stream, sometimes West Chicago and the DuPage county sheriffs police will be out there in wolf packs consisting of half a dozen unmarked units. It's just bad juju to drive through there much over the speed limit. They'll have spies out to see if you're wearing your seat belts and bust you for that, too. I didn't know until now that they come equipped with a chip on their shoulders, but it doesn't surprise me.

Special note: If anybody feels like arguing the above, be my guest. I live here. I've lived (recently) in Carol Stream. I've read the local papers and driven the road, I've seen the cops.
