You know the freight business is bad when you can find a truck parking space at midnight.

The freight will pick up shortly after you see the flat beds hauling coils. Most manufacturers need them to start back up.

this business is getting absolutely ridiculous!!! I had a team just tell me they were offered a load in their s/t for .88 a mile, no fsc!!! What a joke!! They, of course, being the smart people they are, turned it down. These companies dont have a clue what it costs to run a truck. But yet they expect us to take freight for crap rates and expect us to make a living and maintain our trucks out of what they offer us. And the sad part of this is that they cant keep who they have leased on busy, but they keep on pumping drivers in orientation, blowing sunshine up their rear ends telling the water is just fine!! jump right in!!When are we going to say enough is enough? I had yet another freind call me who owns several s/t's that he is ready to just call the bank and tell them to get them as a result of the rates.and this is happenening with allot of small fleet owners. It is really sad what has happenened to this once great industry. And we have really no one but ourselves to blame for letting it get this way.Dont get me wrong, I am usually an upbeat positive person, but enough is enough!!

I have noticed an increase in freight for one of the carriers that my trucks are on with. The other carrier that I'm on with is still struggling and offering my trucks horrible load offers that barely pays 80 cents which includes fuel surchg & deadhead. We can NOT run for that piddly amount. My drivers who are on with that carrier are beyond disgusted and frustrated. Calling to speak with anyone at the carrier gets us nowhere and we only get the runaround.
I firmly believe that everything will eventually turn around but how many can hang on till then? :(

Unfortunately there are drivers who will keep taking the loads at the ridiculously low rates, so the customers will keep on send them at those rates. If everyone just stopped accepting the loads at those rates, they would have to raise their rates or no freight would move. But of course, that's not going to happen.

<<Got a load up to La Pocatiere, PQ. Way up there. Had to dh down to Jersey just to get back out. I wasted all of Monday deadheading down to Jersey. Finally got down to Jersey at around 10:30am with a first out since I had a load going from Montreal, to Newark, DE cancel on me. I finally got a load at 1530, but it didnt' p/u until 0030 and it was going from Hazelton, PA to Shippingport, PA for only 305 miles. turning into a really bad week with all the deadhead.

Traditionally, that might have been so. Right now though, it's a different problem. If you don't run the load, the load will still go that cheap, but to a different carrier. Or they just pause when you tell them the usual tariff, and they tell you they really don't need it all that bad and they'll just LTL it and wait next week to get it. That has happened more than once to me lately.

Broker: Can your truck be there within the hour?
Me: It's cutting it close, but yeah we can do that.
Broker: Ok. You wanna give me a price? I'll hold on.
Me: You're looking at $xxxx.xx total.
Broker: Ok. I'll call you back.
(45 minutes passes)
Broker: Well, I finally got the customer to call me back, and they now say they don't need it that badly. They want me to send it LTL and just get it there sometime next week.

And i'd say good! I'll run the ltl NO prob. THEN i'd go to work and git a nuther 3K to go with it...... an it'd be a fair week. BUT if'n yer talk'in a 300 miler, THATS a different story.

Way too many scenarios to be placed on your plate to to say.....aino way.

Remember tho, ya gotta have the capacity.

Last week was a bear with the weather in Denver Saturday ... snow and all. But this week has been good so far.

We had a short run from Albuquerque to Las Cruces ... then over to El Paso for a run over to Tucson.

Right now sitting at the Triple T, it look like we might have something in PHX tomorrow night ... but you know how that can go.

Everyone stay safe.

I've been bidding on loads the past couple of weeks @ $1.35-$1.45 and can't get anything. I don't wish bad luck on anybody, but the guys that are running these loads at $.80-$.90/mile, the day is going to come when that service mgr. Hands you that bill for $12,000 for a new motor and then you can pick your jaw up off the floor, call the bank and tell them to come get there truck at joe blow's rip off and repair shop because you weren't able to put away any money because you running freight at stupid rates causing of guys who hope to be in the business for many more years to starve because we are bidding and waiting for a good descent paying loads so that when that major repair comes, and believe me, i own five trucks, they will come, we might have enough money to cover the repair instead of letting it go back to the bank. I tell ya, between cheap freighters and some non-paying brokers, it is getting really tuff to survive out here!:(
