TJ is not with a carrier..the owner is just a guy that has his own authority and also has a straight truck....

Well if that is the case OVM, the owner has a lot of latitude to get a load off of a board or to call around. Even TJ can hit the phone and call around.

It is a long story about the owner...just say expedite isn't his first concern..other businesses going on....I personally think he's using this as a tax write off...

OK I guess, but not to beat up on TJ, he's young and may not know this but business comes first before friendship.

Yesterday I was asked this;

My brother has a great idea to make money on the internet. He has been unemployed and his wife is working right now before he starts school but needs $X000 to get started.

Here is the idea - blah blah blah

What do you think?

Should I invest the $X000 into it?

I told the guy this is business, unless you have the money to p*ss away, just tell him - sell something that will get you the money. He was a bit upset but he realized what I was saying.

As I said before, I would drive the thing home and get rid of the headache. I think that's what he is trying to do now which I hope he does I don't like to see someone going through this. But ...

Never sat in one place for more than three days - and that was only if it was a decent place with good weather. Every day you sit down there you are losing money - lost opportunity for income and lost money for living expenses. Considering that most all the small independants are members of the GPS411 group and it's aggregate load board, there is NO EXCUSE for having a truck and driver sit in one spot for anywhere near that long. Considering your positive attitude and your willingness to work, I'll bet you'd be shocked at the amount of money you could make with a better carrier and the fun you would have doing it.

It's not always that easy pilgrim. I had money saved and a willingness to work and no one would hire me because I have an address in California. I had to buy another van to get back into the game. Maybe Tjp is having a hard time switching owners. You have to put yourself in his place. Now is not the time to be jumping around all over the place (there is an over-abundance of woodbe drivers out there hitting up owners for a job)!

I wouldn't call it a job if he's sittin on his arse going on for 4 weeks!

TJ... you need to do something, NOW! Get on the horn with the owner, and tell him get you something, or let you relocate. This is only a weird time if you feel helpless. You're not!

Especially In Laredo, There's really nothing Much to see or do down there and you can usually see or do just about everything in a Couple of days!

I know you were talking to Pilgrim but I can't put myself in his place, I won't allow myself to be put into that position and no one else should.

But Blizzard when is the right time to move? When the company goes down hill or changes something you don't like or when you are not making a dime but sitting there waiting for 21 plus days?

It seems that a few of us are not telling him to play let's pick a company but rather treat this as a business and get out of the situation. There isn't an excuse I can find short of having your family or worst yet your dog held hostage making you stay and wait for a load.

????

I thought that's what a carrier was, someone with authority. As far as definitions go, size doesn't matter.

Sorry Charles...wasn't my intent to minimize what you are...

I mean apparently size does matter..they even sell it in the J now....for whatever reason..I have no idea...;)

I think TJ needs to take a serious look at the company owner in 2 regards. First, how seriously does he take the business and does he even have a clue what he's doing. He bought an E150 for you to use? That shows either complete ignorance of what the proper tools are for this job, or a desire to just do whatever is easiest to resolve a situation. 1 ton cargo vans can be tough to find. Second, does he really even give a flip. We all know that companies have to look out for numero uno, (spanish lingo seemed appropriate), but in this situation taking care of the driver in some way, load or empty move, would benefit the company. This thing really doesn't make sense.

After reading all this I am totally lost on the logic behind it.

I just can't help wondering what kind of businessman(?) this owner is. He has money invested in a piece of equipment that has been allowed to sit idle and unproductive for almost a month, to say nothing of the driver getting shortchanged. If he can't find a load out of Laredo in that amount of time, it's because he (1)hasn't tried or (2)is incompetent. If he doesn't have enough capital to advance fuel money for relocation to a better area, I'd be VERY concerned about much longer he's going to be in business. If it were me in that situation at this point in time I would be on the horn to the owner telling him to get me out of there by noon Friday the 5th or I'm bringing him the truck and the keys. If I'm not going to be working I may as well be enjoying the comforts of home instead of living in a truck.

That was a long time. Apparently long enough for you to dig up a three-year-old thread. That's not easy even for someone who's been here awhile, you did it your first try. Hmmmm.......

Necropost wonder!
