tj you have already thought about moving empty. Can i ask why you have not? I cant understand the logic of your owner.
He is saving deadhead pay but he has lost out on 3 weeks pay.
When was the last time you been to the border with this owner and how many times? What is your average wait time on the border?
Honestly tj I think you are working for a part time owner or he is for whatever reason is wanting you to quit. You have been doing this for a couple years now you already know what laredo is like.

Use to have these problems many years ago. Find someone were you can obtain your own freight or get your own authority.
For all the time and waiting/moving around, you could have found a load and been long gone. If a carrier can't find a load in three weeks out of the valley I think I would be looking somewhere else.
Quite frankly, a carrier that takes that long to find a load, (assuming your not turning down legit offers) shouldn't be in business anyway.
Just my penny in the pond.

Funny thing is, I actually have sympathy on this guy for the Laredo thing. On best accounts, Laredo has been hopping for the last few months. However, I have heard more than this abysmal account of central and south Texas in the last two weeks. Carriers who are used to moving trucks fast are having trouble winning loads from shippers or brokers. Too much coming in suddenly, without the same volume going out. It's one of those sudden changes that sometimes throws the most savvy of us into a tailspin.

I even tried to help a friend find an LTL for a van last week. NOTHING. Very weird.

Thats the thing about Laredo..even if ya do wait a week a 1500/1700 mile run out can make it pay off..BUT if it doesn't come to pass, now you are really on the hook for the week lost and maybe another week or swallowing the DH outta there....

And TJ says the E-1 vans and Bolt are generally in and out...both companies have agents on the border...

I recently spent a few days down there in Laredo. I had a straight come down there and I had that truck loaded the next day. There was plenty of freight moving out of there every day; heck, I was placing several bids a day. The problem was that there were certain companies that shall remain nameless who were bidding bargain basement LTL rates just to move their units and nobody else was going to win a bid until all their units were gone. It's a hard decision to move out of an area when you're seeing plenty of freight to bid on. You keep thinking you'll get the next one.

Most of those nameless carriers are doing multiple shipments on a straight/sprinter that is why they bid them that cheap. I am starting to see a increase in loads that are actually being booked in Mexico rather than the border which I hadn't seen much before. I think that is happening for this very reason.
Seems it is the larger carriers that either hiring people down there or sending reps.

E-1 has had an agent on the border for a long time now...We don't stay long at any border crossing even Nogales..I don't think our loads even hit the load boards.

I wouldn't be surprised that they have one. These that get booked in Mexico are then brokered to a Mexican carrier to get them from the plant to the border and then put on a truck from the company that originally booked it down there. And your right, these loads seldom would show up on a board anywhere unless they are out of their own trucks.

Some of them do when they don't have units there. I've done some E-1 loads from the border.

tjp, iasked once and so did someone else and i am going to ask again, im sure all others are wondering also. who does your owner have you contracted with. just cant imagine any carrier letting one of their units set that long without doing something. really hope this situation gets better for you. nobody deserves that, especially when you have limited control of the situation.

Funny how we can't name this company, since word usually gets back to the owner, and he comes stomping in here with a red face and accusations flying. Whatever works, tho. His guys move at the expense of others. I guess that's the name of the game.

One guy I talked to, with nameless, claimed he ran around 6000 miles one week, by himself. If that's the case, it's only a matter of time before nameless becomes homeless.

as i just stated in another post, itis not against the rules to tell someone who you are contracted to as long as you are not negative and bashing them. so if it is posted, take it for what it is and dont bash just be gratefull for the answer.
