A link to the full article and the bill number would be helpful to get the entire context. It's obvious that Johnson is anti-abortion, but since he's working from the Speaker's chair now he might be open to allowing some exceptions similar to DeSantis's abortion law in FL. Regardless, his position on this one issue doesn't make him the radical extremist zealot that the Democrats and mainstream media are portraying him to be.

His past behavior makes him the anti-abortion radical extremist zealot. And you can be absolutely certain opposition candidates who are running against Republican House member incumbents who voted to make Johnson speaker will do everything they can to tie those Republican candidates to Johnson's anti-abortion views, by virtue of the votes they cast for Johnson.

Might Johnson moderate his abortion views now that he is Speaker of the House? He certainly could. But if he does, he'll get an earful from his fellow extremists who may turn on him and spark yet another leadership crisis in the House. Extremists tend to be purists and they do not tolerate moderating views.

Relatively speaking right?
Just like the late term and partial-birth abortions that some like to say aren’t extreme positions, just “relatively” outside the mainstream, that’s all.

To determine what is and is not extreme, you must first establish the context. In a group of three people, the odd man out is the extremist. In a group of 1,000, the other two may be the extremists. For the purposes of flipping the House in 2024, the context is the general population who votes.

What’s more extreme? Being Pro Life and opposing abortion at 6 weeks because a heart beat is detected at that point or allowing a baby, once it is born to expire?

It would've been helpful if Politico had been specific about that legislation so readers could've read the bill. Judging from his past record, Johnson is definitely hard pro-life and on the far end of the spectrum of the abortion issue. However, SCOTUS has turned abortion rights over to the states so maybe Johnson will keep the federal noses out of the states' business. Let the states deal with abortion so Congress can try to deal with more important federal matters like the economy, wars, etc.

It seems highly unlikely Johnson will keep federal noses out of state abortion business. It seems he has cosponsored legislation and publicly favors a national abortion ban.

Irrelevant question to the point I am making. I'm saying Johnson will be the poster child of far-right anti-abortion views, and Republican incumbents who voted for him to be House Speaker will pay a political price for doing so. Their opponents will seek to tie them to Johnson's extreme views (extreme as lying far right of the American mainstream). That will be easy to do because they voted for Johnson on the record.

I'm not going to debate the abortion question with you. I'm making a point about the Johnson factor in keeping or losing the House in 2024.

New York House Republicans Force Expulsion Vote on Santos

Many House Republicans are not pleased with this action. But the New York Republicans know their seats are very much on the line. They cannot afford to have the George Santos taint follow them into election year 2024.

This is an interesting group of Republicans. All six are freshmen members of Congress, elected in the mid-term elections. All six represent districts in New York, where Santos is also from. It seems Santos is a big albatross for the six and they want to be rid of him.
