Here's the scenero: Let's say that you're a newbie in expediting and you're going to drive team with someone that you don't know. Let's say that the owner of the truck gave you several phone #'s to reach them any time day/night 24/7 AND specifically told you that you could call any time if you had a question, concern, etc. Let's go further and say that within the first 24 hours you see your new codriver drinking several beers while on duty AND right before you go to p/u a load. What would YOU do in this scenero????
Ahhhh, drinking . . . Geez Wingnut this is an easy one cause it wouldn't happen. New or not I would have the since to know drinking and driving doesn't mix. This co-driver would be endangering not only his own life but mine as well. I would have let the person know that I did not approve of drinking (period, could never understand why people like alcohol anyway, it's nasty) and I would not be teaming with someone that was drinking in a truck I would be riding in, either nix the alcohol or I would be calling the truck owner and the company! I definitely would not be riding with someone that has been drinking.
Not to mention, don't these morons know we non-drinkers can smell the alcohol on them, and if we can smell it so can the shipper, that really is impressive to our customers! It's no different from smokers who are trying to hide they smoke, we non-smokers can smell smoke in a vehicle or on a smoker, bottom line you can't hide it.
I was hit by a drunk driver in 1992 in the Florida keys. Had a fracture to my C3 vertebrae and still suffer excruciating headaches from the injury. The driver that hit me had 4 prior DUI's, I was his 5th. I was contacted by the Key West attorneys office about 5 years after my accident to testify against the man in a vehicular manslaughter case. He went on to a 6th DUI resulting in the death of a father leaving, I think it was 2 or 3 children, fatherless. I have no sympathy for drunk driving!
My husband likes to have a glass of wine once in a while but has the common sense of "never on the truck or within 10 hours of going on the truck"! Personally I think drinking is over-rated!
