Chances are, since you obviously did marry, the question is moot.
Which segues nicely back on topic. :D

You guys are really over thinking this....as I said before

The FSC is dropping quickly...
3 weeks ago.. 3.897
2 weeks ago...3.835
Monday just past...3.810

Loads you ran last week may not pay the same this week...depending on how quickly adjusts the FSC...
The Structured FSC at Panther went from .24 to .23 from last week to this week, so that doesn't explain the .02 difference at 22 cents versus 24 cents. Moot is on the 'variable' rate FSC, anyway, which Panther has been playing around with since the first of April. A penny or two here and there from the 'variable' rate people, and 5 or 10 loaded miles here or there, nothing dramatic, but over enough trucks and enough time, it adds up huge.

Having said that, I'd do what Leo suggested, take the load and then have Driver Relations research it and come up with a plausible explanation. I had one load that I ran, and a week later was offered the identical load with a very, very different FSC. I took it, but got an explanation out of Research, which included me getting the money that was the difference (about $80 or something like that).

If you are interested to see how another company would handle the same type of situation I may have an answer for you. I showed up at a shipper that was closed already and for some reason they paid me $58 for 13 miles as a dry run. I am first out here so I might get the same run when the shipper opens tomorrow.

For me it gets down to the carrier and your relationship with them...Id have done it with my current carrier but not my previous....

I did a favor for dispatch yesterday afternoon...less then 30 miles total, pay was good and the load was ready to pickup...pnly proble, wrong CITY on the dispatch and wrpng company name...took 90 minutes to get it handled and then only was it figured out by accident...once loaded and at the delivery, tookj another 90 minutes to get unloaded....the recieving clerk forgot that i was there and she was also doing inbound freight and forget there was a sprinter waiting to get unloaded ahead of also...her excuse, "those little trucks get lost in the system"....

So the favor piece of cake run turned into a pita....oh it also cost my my place in the dispatch line.....

It wasn't dispatches fault at all and they needed the run covered, it was offered to me because of the weight (heavy) and needed covered...inj your situation, the dispatcher didn't bid the load and just wanted it covered....but when the differences and simularities were pointed out, and the added expense of bringing a driver 159 mile to get it, if there was a "relationship" of trust and a real partenership between the company and the contractor, they'd have fixed it...I know Load 1 would have.....

Bolt always shaved miles. I once asked dispatch if they had any shaving cream and they didn't like the insinuation. lol.

They pay based on shortest route, which if you have the time to run those routes you will find the miles to be accurate.

For myself I would have taken the run.To me 18.72 is not worth my truck sitting another day or maybe more.I would have asked for more DH miles pay on another run.

Am I being greedy, virtuous(sticking to my principles) or just plain stupid? You decide.

Monday morning I got a load offer: 711 miles, my rate and a .24 f.s.c. When I got there (metal foundry)the load canceled because the parts were defective. Shipper told me they would be cast again and ready the next day. I got dry run pay, a first out and it's only 13:00 so I should be outta here today anyway.

Tuesday morning and I'm still here. Just got a load offer. Same shipper, same consignee, same f.s.c. rate is .02/mile less and the mileage is now 705. I asked how this could be after explaining the previous day's load offer. I was told this is what the offer is. So I politely declined. I realize the difference between the two loads only amounts to $18.72, but for me it's the principle of the deal. After all we're partners, right?

Tracking the load showed the driver that did accept the load was 159 miles away. Unless the delivery time is changed this load will end up swapping and probably cost more than $18.72 to do it.

So, what you are saying is "I gave up 1,000 bucks to save 18.72"?

Yeah, you showed them alright.....

I would have still taken the run, IF the reduced rates still paid MY rates ,and my expectations for my time pay, and the area/time of delivery. Ext.
just like any other run.
i would then simply file this under the 'can i still bare the warts ?' folder.

A buddy of mine calls that Panther math.

They also had to pay him 159 miles of d/h to the shipper plus the swap. LOL
That's one of my biggest beefs with them. no one uses common sense, No one is allowed to think for themselves. Just do what the computer tells you.

Reminds me of a load offer I had at Con-way before. Picking up in Chicago going to Ky.
Had to keep freight in van overnight for a morning delivery. Freight was a long tube over 12 ft. and had to go across the bed, needless to say I wouldn't be able to use the bed.

Called dispatch and told them my concern and asked for a 50 dollar bonus to cover a motel. After being on hold for a while they said they can't pay for a hotel. Soooooo, they paid me 74.00 for a dry run, called in an outside carrier for a cube van because no other vans in the area and to top it off paid me d/h from Ky, back to chicago. Not bad for about 45min. of my time.

Penny wise, Dollar foolish.
But hey, what do I know I'm just a truck driver.

Moot: would you have taken the load if you didn't know about the prior one?
There's your answer. :)
Of course. It was a decent paying load and I did accept it on Monday. It really isn't about the $18 difference. For me it's about how and why the difference in rate per mile and the actual mileage could change in 24 hours. I realize it is their game, their rules and their field. Sometimes I just don't feel like playing their game and I tell them so!

Sometimes I like to take a stand against the GAME. Many think it foolish of me and eventually the GAME will grind me into the pavement, but I feel better about myself and even a bit righteous. Yeah, another ignorant rebel without a real cause.

I'll save my strength and phone minutes for larger battles with the research department.

Um, by the way, how goes it with you?

Got a load offer today via phone. Customer was on hold while dispatch told me about the load. It paid my rate but they did not know the f.s.c. until they booked the load. I agreed to accept the load for a minimum of .24/mile f.s.c. The dispatcher said he would call me back if it was a go. Five minutes later he called to say the f.s.c. was .23. I agreed to that. Hey what's $5.67 to a rich guy like me!

Another five minutes or so goes by and my QC beeps with the load offer. Now the f.s.c. is .22/mile. I refuse the load. There goes another $5.67. Still a mere pittance to a man of my vast financial status, but it's the goll darn Game I'm getting sick of playing! After an hour of time wasting phone calls and QC banter I went OOS. They win! The Game wore me down once again. Is it my age, am I out of shape or have I become a stubborn old Moot with outdated principles? Enjoy your Labor Day weekend. I know I will. Maybe I'll join a labor union or drink a Molotov Roostertail.

Atta boy Moot! Way to go!!!

The Fedup GAME got to me way sooner than the Panter GAME got to you. You must be a REAL trooper. Regardless, enjoy your Holiday weekend with your scruples intact.

Honestly, I don't know a lot about your carrier other than what I read on here. But, my opinion? ..... Turtle saw the light, I'm sure he can lead you to it. You've been around long enough to know when it's time.
