Verifiable Experience

Hello all, was looking for some input. I stated in another thread that I had driven Class 3 - 8 vehicles for 20 years while in the Military where no CDL was required. In order to make this "verifiable", what if I obtained a signed letter from previous supervisor, on official letterhead of course, describing all equipment operated? All training records were destroyed some time ago and I can only find one supervisor who is still in that would agree to it. So, would this work?

As always, Thanks

Chuck

Larry, good advice. I guess I better go do that.....lol. I'll keep you posted.

So I guess you signed on with somebody? And if I may ask, what do they take out for insurance?

Thanks for info,

Chuck

I drove in the military and received a military drivers license with their version of endorsements. The license showed the vehicle sizes you were licensed to drive... ie... 1/2 ton 3/4 ton 2 ton 5 ton ...etc.
Your license or military records would indicate the year the license was issued and how long the license was in force.

I am not certain if this information would be accepted by the carriers insurance company but it would definitely provide verifiable experience.

Tom, when I retired in November of 2000 records were destroyed. Also, I was thinking that it probably does not even matter if I show up with my own authority AND insurance.

Thank you for your advice!!

Chuck, have you checked into the insurance underwriters yet about obtaining a policy with no "verifiable experience"? That was the "red light" for me and ended my search into doing to identical thing as yourself. I could not find any underwriter to write a policy for me. I had all ducks in a row, but before I did anything further into actually applying for DOT, authority, IRP, Fuel sticker, etc. I decided to check first about insurance. The red light shone bright for me after contacting several insurance underwriters. I even called the state insurance bureau and inquired about "pool" insurance, high risk (even though my DMV is spotless), and could not find anyone to cover me. Good luck, I sincerely hope you can find an underwriter willing to write a policy for you.
