One man Jungle - another man Field ...

as for me , i will only go to the City after a long long preparations .
over the years i have being there many time , most did not turn out as planed...
last time , i had an Expedite run , to be Del. at the tip of the Island , Midnight . got there . sky scraper . no one in .what to do ? , blocking the street ? , i guess so ,
by 6am it was raining parking tickets all over ...(i actually told a city cup that if he wright me a ticket - i will feed it to his horse...) what a nightmare... got out by noon , no extra pay , wasn't worth it.
it is not the peoples , it's about knowing where to go .
if you drive a tractor trailer into the city , you better know exactly where you going. too many truck restrictions , and truck restrictions that are not really truck restrictions...you never know.
there is absolutely a need for 'city truckers', us OTR's feeling lost there .I have no problem drooping in Elizabeth ,driving the City is not part of my rout .and take a lot of know-how .i can only imagine what it takes to drive it Daily , i hope you get payed well ,Devill ,
for some rezone in the trucking industry there is NYC surcharge .
got to wonder why.
as to the peoples , it's like S1 said , sit back and enjoy the show , there are so many strange/interesting caricature in there , it's like watching another country...
BTW , what you do if you run out of hours , and you still east of the Hudson ??

I saw that story, I was going to post a video link but I dispatch called me out on a recovery run. Another Out a town Yahoo (such as youself) refused to go past Newark Airport again with a Del. for Brooklyn NY.

I'm sure you exatrated everything that happened to you. Also, I will question whom ever & whatever I like. You posted a story on a message board, is everyone just suppossed to drop to there knees & take your word because you said so? Short answer, NO.

Like I said earlier, IF all that did happen you than most likely YOU were the cause & the Prolbems.

As far as my spelling goes, if you are so concered with puncuation than I sugguest you become an English teacher, clearly you can not handle the trucking industry.

Deville, its great having someone like you on this forum to give me a laugh! But I can't help wondering if you are on drugs or something, cause you just don't get it, do you. You didn't answer any of the questions I posed to you because you know I'm right.

Sir, I've not refused loads in or out of NYC, so you're wrong there!

How am I the cause and the problem when I was sitting in the lot next to the one the incident happened in? How am I the cause and the problem when I'm four vehicles back from the intersection the cabs wrecked in? No exaggerations in my post, just truth. Sorry you can't handle or except it Deville?

I would say that owning my own successful trucking company along with my wife, and having been in trucking over twenty-five years is proof that I CAN HANDLE the trucking business! Can you? You sound unhappy with trucking.

You Sir are a typical NYC jerk!!!

What questions did you ask that I did Not address? I doubt your story to be true. You were bashing NYC drivers & NY.now you clain you were poking fun at them. Now you have resorted to name calling just like a typical child would when they are cornered.

So you don't refuse any NYC loads yet you complain non stop about how much you hate NY. You just want somthing to be angry at.

Just because you have been in somthing for 25 years doesn't mean you are sucessful or happy, yet for some reason you feel the need to throw that out there when it really has no basis in this discussion, perhaps you are doing so to try to convince yourself that you are indeed happy & succesfull. Happiness is a state of my mind, & you appear to be out of yours.

Perhaps you need to sit down & discuss your issues & feelings with a professional. We have the some of the worlds best Doctors in NYC, If you can keep yourself from getting into anymore altercations while in NYC you should make an apointment with one these fine Doctors.

Good day to you sir.

DEVILLE OUT.

"Frady Cats and "out of town yahoos." Your own words equals name calling so I guess we are like two peas in a pod Deville when it comes to name calling! LOL

You get the Hell out of dodge, no one is checking log books in the city.

I've never ran into that problem in NYC anyway.

As far as Tractor trailors in the city goes, anything over 40ft in mid-down is gonna get you a ticket, you can't get a TT around the down town area, (little Italy & china Town) safely. most of that big trucking takes place after hours. Most TT's that go in & out of NYC are city cabs pulling pups & are 12ft high.

Most of the loading docks in the city will not accomodate a truck over 12 ft, you need a lift gate for just about everything. I learned my lesson the hard way. My truck was 13' 4" with no lift gate, when It was time to add another truck to my stable I got a city truck, a Cab Over, with a 20ft box, 12' 6", air ride & a lift gate. If I get in a jam I can drop the suspension & that will get me into most docks. The Cabover is the best thing to have in NYC so much easier to drive, easier to turn. You can pull the mirrors all the way into the doors so you have more room to pass double parked cars.

There are a few downsides to the cabover, Number 1 being if you get into any type of high speed collision you could be killed instanly, at the very least have a pair of broken legs. The ride can be a little rough & getting in & out can be a challenge if you have a bad back, or are really over weight Long trips can be brutal. Thankfully outside of the occasional back pain I have no other issues.

My trips to NYC have been equally eventful, lost more mirrors and screwed up more alignments there than anyone place else. Even Detroit with giant sink holes has less pot holes per mile than NYC.

I have seen cabbies get into fights too. I've seen cops fight, and I have seen some strange things happening there that I never seen anywhere else like The Gay Hispanic Parade for Youth Supporters of President Bush.

The people are nice to a point, stop and ask directions and then go to the back of the truck to tell the people trying to open the door that you will be moving so they better hold on or get off.

My last trip was met with a hook up to one of NYC finest tow trucks which is used for cars, not truck mind you, because I could not get my truck started fast enough to get it moved. That was followed by several lectures of how to drive NYC style by the nice cop who took offense of my Michigan "run them over" style of parking.

This trip was also the one where my NYFD hat helped me get some free food, unwelcomed. I told the nice lady of Chinese origin with the heavy Wales accent that I didn't belong to the NYFD but drove a truck even though my truck was right behind me, and nevertheless she handed me the food and said "come back soon".

It is a great place to be stuck in, I always seem to arrive during morning rush hour going through Manhattan and leave the city Friday afternoon during afternoon rush. It always ends my visit to the nearest rest area for an hour with an icepack on my knee to bring down the swelling because the amount of shifting I have to do to get out of there.

My problem with nyc isn't so much all the truck restrictions. It's all the restrictions that aren't standardized to the rest of the world. The overhead clearances are totally meaningless. What the heck is a Time Square Shuffle? It's sort of like that French language thing--if we make it difficult enough for outsiders we'll have job security. Last year I ran nyc regularly and overtime learned a lot of the quirks, and it's obvious how much nyc's problems are self induced. Maybe more people should run nyc to keep it fresh in everyones minds why the mess needs to be contained.

There several ways to disable the QC.the more complicated they make them the easier it is to plug up the plumbing. They are just machines, we tell them what to do not the other way around.

I have found the NYC is easier to get around the past couple of years. Many Business have left for the Burbs, the Garment district is a shell of what it used to be. & with the mass layoffs & companies going under there aren't as many people roaming the streets like there used to be. Not to Mention Bloomberg has made it his mission to tax & ticket everything & wan't all cars & trucks out of the city period. He has made doing business in the city almost impossible, unless you are one of his cronies. I shudder when I think he might do if he is re-elected next month.

It's cause & effect though, everything trickles down evantually. Hopefully it goes back up again.

I was in the Soho district last month at 9am..the streets were busy but not clogged, they were managable and no tie ups hardly at all getting out..

Ya know...NYC is ...what it is...NYC...live with it

You just lost the respect of most if not all members of this forum .
don't get me wrong , i am a strong opponents of the HOS as they are , so called safety laws ,and alike ...
but will not break them .
there is a big different between opposing the roles & obeying them .
Many members here are profiting 'despite' the HOS , breaking the law will not last , sooner or later , they will get you.
right now i am parked in New England , the shipper is open 25/7 , and the load going to C.A. i will only head to the shipper once i get my restart. the broker called in twice this afternoon . 'tough luck' i told him .
it is up to all of us to make dern shure our business partners understand and pay for our own safety.
like it or not -safety start with compliance.
