Think you deserve respect?

Call yourself an expediter or whatever other fancy name (other than a truck driver) you choose to call yourself. Tell everyone that you haul high value freight, not the lowly grocery warehouse freight, etc "truck drivers" haul and you do it in your fancy custom rigs.

In the eyes of the general public do you think thats gonna gain you respect? Doubtfully with most of John Q. Public! Instead he/she simply see you as one of those nasty truck drivers in your dreadful truck (straight or T/T). You know the one that dangerously rode they're bumper for the last ten miles pushing them to go faster when you were already doing the speed limit. How about the truck driver(s) blowing by at seventy mph in a fifty-five mph construction zone. Better yet the truck driver(s) that are to animalistic and lazy to walk there fat [skinny and everything in between] A's a short distance into the building to p i s s! No, instead they would rather whip their vienna wiener out in front of my wife (and anyone else) and p i s s e d [urinated] between their truck and ours. I wish everyone of them were arrested for indecent exposure! Trash cans? Thats a foriegn object to most truck drivers today. And so on and so forth.

Point is, Dave Nemo and the drivers that call his show daily trying to gain respect of the general public, and the good professional drivers like so many of the members on this forum haven't got a chance in the eye of the general public when what seems more like the majority of drivers on the road today choose to act disrespectful in so many ways. Sadly more than not, its the disrespectful deeds of truck drivers that stick in the minds of the general public, not the good deeds.

You know its bad when truck drivers are ashamed of the actions of other truck drivers and no longer want to be associated with them or the trucking industry. Truck drivers disrespect truck drivers.

What got this started? Three nights ago we park in an Ohio Turnpike Plaza. One of the new ones to boot. In the course of forty-five minutes eight truck drivers park in front or next to us and proceed to p i s s in front of us in the parking lot. The building was less than 500' away! Why? As for tailgating truckers, [imaginitively speaking] the day is going to come (maybe sooner than later) when I don't care anymore and some stupid truck driver decides to ride my tail. He/she is gonna get the suprise of they're life when I suddenly slam on my brakes hard enough so that they rearend my rig. Them I'm gonna own them and the carrier they drive for. Remember, its the stepdeck trailer with the Abolish Alimony bumper sticker on its tail!

Sitting at a Cracker Barrel in the Salt Lake City area last week and a bob-tail parked beside us. Opened his door and poured out 2....not 1.....2 milk jugs full of urine on to the ground. Tell me again why we get no respect and don't ask me if we called the cops, how are you going to prove that one?

Nah, I don't DESERVE respect, I have to earn it. It is sad the way some conduct themselves in our civilized world. However, watching this industy and it's representitives, maybe we should all jes pizz in the street until the stops put a potty within walking distance of ever slob. Then watch our fuel prices go up. If you can't beat em, join em.

By the way.....when ya saw em wit their dik in their hand, didja confront, or jes watch??

Granted, I'm in a van and don't spend a lot of time in or watching the big truck lots, but in more than eight years I don't think I've seen a total of eight people pee in a parking lot, much less eight people pee in the same parking lot within a 45 minute time span. The fact that all eight performed this incredible oddity right in front of the same truck each time is just astounding, and worthy of a call to Ripley.

Another one to call Ripley about is the fact that so many people don't know that urine is sterile, and when dumped on the ground only adds nitrogen and a few diluted organic compounds to the soil, all of which are beneficial to the soil and the things that grow in it.

And, hey, if you think truckers have a bad reputation because of the actions of a few, you should check out cops, and Muslims, and Christians, and lawyers, and black presidents, and well, pretty much everybody.

don't know the experience of others ,but ,for my self i feel dern proud to be a trucker and a small business owner .expedite is one of the most rewarding segments of transportation ,and we all have a lot to be proud of.
i voted a few days ago because i need to do my part to make a difference ,i present my industry to the best that i can for the same rezone.
can't really remember the last time i earned disrespect from anyone ,and think the motoring public think high of my trucks .
the peoples i know and associate with ,always treat me with respect .it is how i represent my self .
just today i had a PU in a place i never visited before ,it was a great experience ,and i really enjoyed doing business with them .the conversation on the dock with the 2 other drivers ,simply made my day .
being the slowest truck on the road i am being tailgated all the time ,and can care less .at best it will earn them a smile .never had any safety issue with that .
so to answer the OQ , yes , i think i deserve it ,and more so ,i feel we are getting all the respect we can ask for .

After a public statement like that I hope you don't get rearended. Not sure who will end up owning whom (carriers included)?

Ah, yes, I am remiss. How could I forget. One bad fleet owner translates to all fleet owners are bad. Even Muslims feel sorry for fleet owners.

Well you see, I was just driving along doing the speed limit and minding my own business. Next thing I know this trucker is tailgating me. He/she couldn't have been ten feet off my bumper. Then out of nowhere somebody's little puppy dog ran right out in from of me and I applied my brakes to avoid hitting the dog. Next thing I know this idiot rearends me! Can somebody take me to the hospital cause I think my neck hurts!

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL

Regardless of my action, it is still (1) agressive driving (2) careless driving (3) tailgating (4) failure to have vehicie under control on the part of the driver that rearends the other vehicle. Plus prove "the dog" did not run out in front of my vehicle. Winable case I would think. Its been done by others and they have won.

Point is why would anyone want to risk tailgating someone doing the speed limit or otherwise? That driver might just be crazy as a fox and see you as $$$ signs and opportunity knocking on their rear bumper!!!

Deliberately provoking a collision by jamming on the brakes is risky [you could get hurt, too], and just plain stupid, IMO.
It's much more satisfying to tap the cruise speed down until they pass.
My pet peeve is the 4 wheelers [usually, but not always, pickup trucks] with incredibly bright lights - I want them in front of me too.

I was always taught respect was earned.

Have you noticed how the people who demand respect from others are the same ones who do not respect themselves? The louder the demand, the lower the self-esteem. The greater the self respect, the more confidence one has in his or her ability to earn and enjoy the respect of others.

Or dumb as a box of rocks. I'm thinking this post will forever follow you. So anyone who rear ends you will be able to point to this post and cause you problems. Maybe they will own your a$$.

There is an old Army adage that goes something like this, "You can't demand respect, you command respect".

I have seen so many disgusting acts by drivers at the truck stops. I stopped using them altogether with the exception of buying fuel. I was a owner operator pulling for Schneider my last few years on the road. Their larger terminals were 1st class, and spread out pretty nicely.

The most disgusting thing I ever saw, was a guy taking a dump behind his trailer at the Nitro West Virginia "Pilot". I was doing a pre-trip and walked right up on the slob. I almost threw up when I realized what I was seeing. He was 250 feet from the front door of the Pilot. Needless to say... I got on the cell phone and called Werner with his truck no#, trailer#, and a description of the slob. I then went into the Pilot and told the lady at the fuel desk. They sent a guy out and called the police a few minutes later.

U all need to go sit on the beach,,,watch the waves, turn off the dam* radio, no laptop, just long island teas, chips dips, shrimp and forget all this stuff for awhile. I did,,sure puts a different perspective on all the junk we can get caught up in here. Life is far more important then watching some fool relieve himself in a parking lot, much less writing about it,,,geez guys, u all are smarter then that, sometimes this place feels like we are watching the Jerry Springer show stuff... Now u all head for Margarita ville and have some fun.................:D

That's the way to do it. A flash of the brake lights as you kick off the cruise to pizz them off, then slow down until they pass. It's one thing to bloviate about doing something as stupid as causing an accident, but I can't imagine anyone really doing it.
