painful ...
A shot from a .22 rifle is around 140 dB ... which
is painful and can cause permanent hearing damage ... with as little as a single shot.
It's why indoor ranges tend to insist on hearing protection if you're going to shoot there or be on range.
You want to hazard a guess at the difference in loudness of someone yelling and a gun shot ?
Screaming, Yelling, Shouting = 90 dB
Loudest Sound Capable by Human Voice = 120 dB (likely wouldn't be intelligible words)
Glock 17 (unsuppressed, firing Remington UMC 147gr ammo) = 162 dB
