The Trump Card...

The USA TODAY, the Flagship of the Gannett Federation, didn't exactly come out and endorse Clinton, because they don't endorse political candidates at that publication, but they did come out full-frontal to do an anti-Trump endorsement. They had a unanimous consensus against Trump, but were split on Hillary. While mentioning it as the obvious elephant in the room, they nevertheless dance around the same willful suspension of belief regarding Hillary Clinton's record and pattern of deceit, dismissing it as far less important than keeping Trump out of the White House. They have all the proper talking points and buzzwords the Clinton campaign requires (the siren song of a dangerous, unfit, temperament, knowledge, steadiness and honesty, they're all in there).

It's hilarious. They basically said, "Look, you don't have to vote for Clinton, but if you vote for Trump you're an idiot, and if you vote third-party and don't vote for Hillary then Trump might win, which also makes you an idiot."

It's not like 100 years ago when newspaper endorsement mattered. Today with the Internet and so many different sources for news and opinion, newspaper endorsements mean next to nothing.

On the other hand, it's a lead pipe cinch that the Trump Hotels will no longer be placing complementary copies of USA TODAY outside their guest's room door after today. :D

well someone crushed the numbers on this FREE college education crap....

20 million students approx...Cost roughly 5 TRILLION over a 4 year term.....and that repeats every 4 years as the students graduate....Really?....That is unaccounted for funding at this point...no taxation/programs in place to pay this NEW cost...5 Trillion added to the debt every 4 years!

New taxes will be enacted once this program has amassed a huge debt. Like any other government handout, get the people hooked and the program won't stand a chance of being eliminated.

Oh, I dunno. Newspapers are supposed to be brokers of honest opinion. The anti-Trump endorsement came off as more of an insidious attempt to sway voters away from electing the candidate of their choice. After reading the editorial, I’m now even more convinced that we need a political outsider to be our next president. The Gannett Company's USA TODAY Editorial Board has proved how far-reaching insider politics extend into every aspect of our lives to control how people are supposed to think. The fact that Trump has the support of such a high percentage of American voters should stand on its own, and give the editorial board pause. The board members’ opinion is rightfully theirs, as is ours, but publishing their anti-Trump opinion has lowered the newspaper’s standards to those of a tabloid.

Most of the editorial’s criticisms of Trump could easily be applied to President Obama. His inexperience, shifting positions and partisanship have made him one of our worst presidents. Hillary Clinton is in a class of her own when it comes to deceit. It seems that the only time she can tell the truth is when it turns out to be the only alternative left. Clinton will probably turn the White House into a pay-to-play machine, business as usual, only more refined and efficient.

It amazes me how many publications (and people) so quickly admit, then wilfully dismiss as unimportant, the fact that Hillary is utterly corrupt, and obfuscates and dodges the truth (even when there's no reason to do so), and claim she'd make a better president than someone, even Trump, who is not corrupt.

From their study of the ancient Roman Republic, the founders who wrote the US Constitution wanted to imitate some of its better aspects, and one of those was the idea of “civic virtue.” That is the notion that the people, in order to establish a political community capable of surviving and remaining stable, must have a kind of moral excellence about them, and so must their leaders. James Madison, among others, wrote extensively on the subject.

In the Federalist Papers, Madison wrote that a selfless people could be trusted to choose virtuous leaders, but that the people’s government could be set up in such a way as to correct for leaders who failed to maintain that ideal. Clearly he didn't forsee so many liberals as abandoning the 'selfless' category in favor of the 'gimme, gimme' category.

Hillary Clinton has demonstrated zero civic virtue. Oh, she talks a good talk, but when given the chance to walk it, she stumbles. Trump's history as a businessman and developer is by definition a civic virtue, even in his failures. With every one of Hillary's failures it is civility itself that loses.

Definitely not the first grower in the white house. I don't think he ever payed big money in a sexual harassment suit or his wife tried to destroy women who came forward.
