He said during an MSNBS town hall interview "why do we make them if we can't use them?"
But that's a far, far different thing than "If we have nuclear weapons we should use them." Asking the rhetorical question of why have them if we can use them is not at all the same as making a suggestion of explicit intent.
and a foreign policy advisor hired by trump said that during a briefing that trump said three different times "if we have them why can we use them?"
Yeah, well, we haven't actually heard that from the foreign policy expert, have we? It's an unnamed source, unverified and unverifiable. I don't believe for a second that Trump would ask that question even once, much less three different times.
man running for president of the United States doesn't realize that we don't use nukes on our enemies.
I think he does realize that we don't use nukes on our enemies. Except for those two times we did.
He don't realize that the reason we have them is to discourage our enemies from using nukes on us. His words are scary to any of us who enjoy living on this planet.
Of course he realizes we have them for a deterrent. Sheesh. You think he hasn't seen
War Games?
Can you imagine the reaction of our enemies if Trump said, "I would never use nuclear weapons. Ever. They are completely off the table."
Rest assured, the US has copious amounts of plans to use our nuclear weapons, be they in a response or in a preemptive measure. Winning is the goal of war, including nuclear war, and that's the official position of the United States. It's why Reagan directed his nuclear peeps to prepare a war plan that would ensure that U.S. strategic forces and their nuclear commanders could fight a nuclear war for at least six months, and prevail in the end. It's wny we have both strategic (long range) and tactical (battlefield) nuclear weapons. And it's the reasoning behind the long-standing U.S. position that allows for the first use of nuclear weapons in a crisis or conflict. Those plans are still in place, evolving.
The notion that Trump asked, three times, "If we have them why can't we use them?" is just absurdly ridiculous. Unless, this sooper dooper unnamed foreign policy expert couldn't competently answer one simple question, posed three times.
The chances are that we will once again end up using our nuclear weapons at some point. Donald Trump knows this, and has raised a host of legitimate and important questions about the role and purpose of America’s very large arsenal of more than 4,000 nuclear weapons in operation or reserve. While he may lack the expertise to answer those questions, his ignorance is hardly greater than most of his critics ("Oh, no, we would never use them. They only exist as a deterrent!" - idiots). His critics on the subject would do themselves a favor by opening their own minds, showing a little curiosity, doing their homework on the evolution of our nuclear policy, and then add a bit of intelligent insight into the debate. But no. "Trump's an idiot. Trump's ignorant. Trump doesn't understand why we don't use our nukes! Trump wants to use our nukes!" Idiots.
