The Trump Card...

Musk's Twitter reinstatement of Trump and others is a side show compared to the larger issues now facing Twitter. Since taking over the company, Musk has fired over half of Twitter employees and emptied key departments, only to partially reverse himself almost instantly. Other than make Twitter into the "app for everything," Musk has announced no direction for the company. He got rid of the board of directors the first day he took over, leaving himself as the sole decision maker. He walked into Twitter headquarters carrying a sink for some unknown reason. Most recently, he made demands of the workforce that prompted more to quit. And all this is happening after bizarre behavior of buying the company for far more than it was worth, suing to get out of the deal, and then proceeding with the deal. His Twitter posts since acquiring the company have been cryptic and nonsensical (at least to me).

I'd like to think Musk, who has accomplished amazing things with other companies (Tesla, SpaceX) will do something good for Twitter. But for now, it's a challenge to see any rhyme or reason to what he's doing for the company he recently acquired. Musk is a pioneer and original thinker. I don't think he's nuts or has lost it. But his Twitter actions to date are perplexing.

Regarding Trump, he has said he will stay off Twitter and on Truth Social. Time will tell if he remains true to his word (not exactly a safe bet based on his record).

With Results Mostly In, Were the Midterm Elections Good or Bad for Trump?

One view has coalesced. It says the midterms were bad for Trump. What is the pro-Trump case?

I thought some were saying that the Dobbs decision would be the Dems rallying cry before the midterms?
Now it’s because of Trump? Interesting…
Dems voted for a cognitive diminished President last election, another person who couldn’t articulate a sentence or comprehend words as senator, and selected as Governor someone who wouldn’t even debate her opponent. It doesn’t matter about Trump, Dems will vote for their candidate anyway.
And Dems know how to collect their votes better too.
Republicans need to up their game and do the same. Just like in football, when one team does something that works and is successful, other teams copy them. That is what Republicans have to do and some who analyzed the midterms are discovering this. Voting early more and harvest ( legally) votes. Target the ones that haven’t voted instead of wasting resources.

Fun facts: Republican casted 6 million more votes than Dems in the midterms.
Republicans won the House for only the third time since 1954.
Who should I thank for this? Trump or Biden?

Here are some other random thoughts to consider:

Republicans flipped four House seats in deep blue NY, and Lee Zeldin came much closer than expected in the governor's race.

DeSantis and Rubio blew their Democrat opposition away in FL as the state turned from purple to bright red. The carried Miami-Dade and Palm Beach, formerly blue bastions.

The post-mortems seem to indicate that the "red wave" hopes were overly optimistic, in spite of polls showing 75% thinking the country is headed in the wrong direction.

McConnell and the RNC mismanaged the funding of candidates like Oz and Masters, who were running against weak opponents. They also over-emphasized election day voting instead of harvesting ballots during early voting periods. Early voting is here to stay - McConnell isn't. New party leadership is sorely needed.

Bottom line: Trump probably made no difference one way or the other.

And perhaps for good reason. This business of letting criminals out without regard to their repeated crimes turns people off and prompts them to vote against the party that promote that nonsensical policy.

There is little purple in FL. No real change here. Bozo the Clown would win big if he was a Republican.

Seems correct.

A whole lot of Republicans are specifically saying Trump made a decisive difference that hurt the Republican party. They criticize Trump for endorsing and supporting nut-case candidates who turned off too many voters. Candidate quality was the issue that cost the Republicans a stronger majority in the House and the opportunity to win the Senate.

In Alaska, McConnell pumped in millions of dollars to help Lisa Murkowski defeat Republican Kelly Tshibacka . She would have won that race. There still will be a “Republican”Senator elected in Alaska in Murkowski, but she hardly is a reliable vote. And she is anti Trump, who McConnell helped win. Millions of dollars that could have been spent elsewhere like for Masters and Lake in Arizona. Masters was heavily outspent by Kelly 10 to 1.
Trump endorsed Tudor Dixon was outspent 60 million dollars to 6 million. She lost the Michigan governor’s race. They get outspent 6 and 10 fold but it’s somehow Trump’s fault they lost?

Once Again, Trump-Appointed Justices Don't Help Trump

Headline: "Trump Taxes: US lawmakers get access to former president's returns."

This result happened with ZERO dissent expressed by any US Supreme Court justice. While Trump succeeded in delaying this outcome for a long time, he eventually ran out of delaying tactics and the law was upheld.

It's interesting to note that the US Supreme Court could have easily sat on this decision for just a few short weeks until the Republicans take control of the US House, and the Republicans would have presumably dropped the case. But the Justices did not do that. Instead, they took deliberate action to allow the Democrat-controlled House to receive the tax returns that Trump fought hard to keep from the House committee.

That's not exactly a confidence builder for Trump and his attorneys as they rack up one legal setback after another in the Mar-a-Lago criminal investigations, which feature potential prison time for Trump.
