I think a mass pardon of the Jan 6 insurrectionists would be deemed valid. Andrew Johnson pardoned Confederate soldiers en mass. Jimmy Carter pardoned draft dodgers en mass. Benjamin Harrison pardoned all members of the Mormon Church en mass (bigamy).

Any of those Presidents have a dog in the fight ?

If not, it's a different scenario.

So you can't get him on inciting from his speech because there wasn't anything in the speech that did that. Notice how the news outlets don't really play over and over again his speech? Because it would mention the word peaceful and it is exculpatory. So now we're into what he said in perceived code words and dog whistles because they don't have a case.

And no, I don't believe you were actually quoting me.

But it's possible that's incorrect, and you could be referring to something even earlier.

I'm not the one who had the near-immediate, knee-jerk reaction to posts critical of Mr. Trump.

No. None had a dog in those fights. But the Constitution is pretty clear about pardon power. Trump already pardoned some of his associates in cases where he may very well have had a dog in those fights (Stone, Manaford, Flynn, etc.). No one has challenged his ability to do that.

I haven't made that claim (that he can't be gotten)

OTOH, I've read some former law enforcement/DOJ types who think that there is a case to be made.

I suspect no one would ... while he is still in office.

It's pretty early still.

And also entirely possible that it may never happen.

A quick news check on Saturday evening shows the MAGA people (is that a fair term?) are quiet. A car parade in one city. A couple flag waving demonstrations on street corners here and there. A lightly attended gathering at a state capitol or two. No MAGA activity reported in DC.

In other news, the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills won their games and advanced toward the Super Bowl.

I caught Lester on the NBC Nightly News ... would normally catch PBS Newshour afterwards, but on Saturdays it begins at 18:00 rather than 19:00 so they overlap. Doesn't seem like there's much going on.

Fairly quiet around here ... even the NRA instructor guy hasn't been out shooting much on his range lately ... but it's cold out, so ...
