The Trump Card...

I really don't understand why anybody would be against a wall?
Walls don't work.

Let's get serious and come up with policies and procedures that work. Hollering "build walls...make them pay for it"... Is not being serious, it's pandering.

It's not JUST A WALL. It's a wall with everything else too. Claiming walls don't work so don't build them...it's a cop out.

Having a serious wall makes a serious statement that law has meaning in the United States. Symbolism matters. Deterrence matters. We shouldn't tolerate people illegally breaking into our country any more than an individual would tolerate a break-in of their home. Would anyone of us allow someone to break into their home and allow them to remain in the house? it is an apt analogy.

Today, the United States is a fully developed nation with a system of law in place. We can't have an entire body of law disregarded and expect not to see an erosion of respect for law in general. The unraveling of a sacred compact between citizens and government happens when widespread belief that law has no consequence takes root.

How can any well meaning person excuse disintegration of our borders? Border enforcement must be rigorous, utilizing every available means. San Diego seems to have a successful wall. A nation belongs to its citizens.

I'd be curious to know how many politicians have fences around their homes.

No disagreement with that statement here. The problem is all we keep hearing is "build a wall".

Walls do not work! There must be other procedures to go along with it.

Of course you use things in conjunction with a wall. No one expects a wall to be put up and nothing else. That's kind of like someone saying Walls don't work thinking saying it enough will make it true.

Ummmmm, not working very well in Detroit is it?
They have a version of a wall in many gas stations and stores. They're called bullet proof glass partitions at the counter. It helps a great deal. It works.

Look at Trump's border plan. It's not just about the wall.

Many of them have all kinds of barriers. Like armed security detail, bulletproof limos. Many live in GATED communities. They live in a protected bubble.

Because it is an expensive solution that doesn't address the real problem, which is the desire of people to come to the US for work. [And for birthright citizenship] If we find ways to eliminate those incentives, the border is irrelevant. Of course it isn't easy, but if we have to spend a brazillion dollars, we should be attacking the problem, not the symptoms. Stop allowing employers to hire illegals, and stop allowing people who have entered illegally to have children who are granted citizenship. We're not going to be able to void the citizenship already granted, but we don't need to continue a policy that is seriously abused, IMO.

It's really not an expensive solution to build a wall. Some of the politicians like Jeb Bush want you to think it would cost close to a trillion dollars. They are politically against it so they'll give astronomical figures to dissuade people from being for it. The cost would be around 6 billion. A relatively small number when considering the money that will be saved as a result of the wall and the good it will do.
See article excerpt below:
.
Cost-Benefit of the Border Fence

Will a border fence cost money? Will it look aesthetically unpleasing in some places? Sure, but the cost of illegal immigration on our welfare, education, hospitals, criminal justice system, highway safety, drug violence, and culture is incalculable and infinite. And the sight of dead bodies and drug smugglers is more offensive than a security barrier.

The 245-mile security fence in Israel cost $450 million, averaging $1.8 million per mile. Assuming the completion of our security fence would cost the same amount, the total tab would come in at just under $2 billion. Even if we use higher estimates of 9 million per mile, as estimated by DHS for the cost of the San Diego fence, that would amount to roughly $6 billion for the project.

Now consider the cost savings of each illegal alien inhibited from entering the country. According to a conservative estimate by Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation, for every illegal alien that returns home (or is prevented from crossing the border), taxpayers save $700,000. That means we would reach the break-even point after preventing just the first 8,500 illegal immigrants from crossing. Moreover, the cost of other assets that don’t work or are manipulated by the political management will surpass the cost of the border fence and having the fence as a force multiplier will decrease the need for other assets.

Ideally, we should not need a full security fence at our southern border. As Moses observed when the Jews were conquering the land of Canaan, the weaker cities were the ones encompassed by a wall while the stronger ones were confident in their prowess for defense. And indeed, if we had a country that actually enforced our laws, cut off the magnets, and held the government of Mexico accountable for their violation of our sovereignty, we wouldn’t need a wall. But we are not a strong country at a political level. In fact, we have a weak and malfeasant governing class. We therefore need a border fence.

The problem isn't here alone, mexico needs to fix it's economy. Until that happens they will come and find cash jobs. A wall will still be needed. Everything isn't always our fail alone

Yep, wall looking like a cheaper solution. And as mention, some good ideas to curb some of the illegal flow into the country, but neither party has the political will.
Start running these costs through the calculator and it becomes easier. And remember, we are borrowing at a fast clip just to support them and those numbers coming in are climbing.

This report didn't say anything about illegal immigrants. Immigrants are green card holders and citizens through naturalization.

Undocumented immigrants do not qualify for welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, and most other public benefits. Most of these programs require proof of legal immigration status
