The Trump Card...

Here's an interesting opinion piece from The Hill that cuts through the (mostly fake) outrage and asks, and kind of answers, the questions that I've been asking ever since the whole "Russia hacked the election!" thing broke. That is...

What, exactly, did Russia do? And how did they affect the election?

It also touches, quite brutally, on why the left has been so eager to place the blame for losing the election onto the Russians, instead of on themselves where is belongs.

The answer to "What, exactly, did Russia do?" is actually quite simple - they hacked into the DNC and Podesta's emails and leaked what they found. They didn't fabricate anything, they simply leaked what they found. And what they leaked was stuff many people already strongly suspected, that the DNC had selected Hillary to be the IT girl, conspired against Bernie to ensure he didn't win, and the DNC, the Hillary campaign, and the mainstream media all colluded to try and make it happen with Hillary.

As to the second question of "How did the Russian hacks affect the election?" the answer to that is pretty simple, too - they didn't.

But you noticed from almost the very beginning of the leaks, the left and the press were full of moral outrage, to the point where what was in the leaks was (and still is) irrelevant, because the leaks were carried out by the Russians.

Once you've read that article, read this one. It's an excellent example of deflecting blame, moral outrage, and hilarity. It's almost like the author is stomping his feet and throwing a temper trantrump in the candy aisle

On a separate note, I think it's butt-hurt hilarious how the Dems and the press immediately dismissed as being without evidence and just utterly ridiculous that Obama would wiretap the Trump campaign, despite the known existence of FISA orders to do just that, yet at the same time, with even less evidence, accept as stone-cold truth that the Trump campaign actually conspired with Russia to hack a couple of email accounts with a phishing scheme.

Today Trump will be signing the second travel ban.. hope this one takes!
It's pretty a comprehensive order. It directly addresses every single issue by the 9th Circus Court of Appeals, cutting them off at the knees for adjoinment. People will sue, to be sure, and they have already said they will. But the reasons for the 6 countries are explicitly enumerated, as well as the reason for dropping Iraq from the list. The order also has provisions for both adding additional countries to the list, as well as removing any of the 6 already on the list.

People are screaming the same things as before, that it's a Muslim ban and that it's unconstitutional. The enumerated reasons for the ban and for these 6 countries make it very clear that it's not a Muslim ban. One of the hardest things about filing a lawsuit (successfully) is trying to find someone with standing to sue. It's still not even clear whether the states of Washington and Minnesota (or is it Wisconsin, I forget) even has standing. If that original case ever gets to the Supreme Court, I don't think the case will survive. There are just too many precedents against the state having the proper standing, and only the most liberal interpretations allow it. But this new order exempts everyone with a valid visa, a green card, dual nationals even from the designated countries as long as they are traveling on a passport from a non-designated country, and anyone who has already been granted refugee status or asylum even if they haven't been in the US, yet. It also allows for a lot of waivers for people who have previously been admitted to the US for work or study (take that, Washington State and Silicon Valley), and even waivers for people wanting to visit immediate family members in the US. It doesn't mention religious preference for a minority religion, or any other mention of religion. Everything the 9th Circus mentioned, this order addresses.

On a side note, I still think it's funny that in the 9th Circus Court ruling they argue the original Executive Order violates the Constitution and other laws, but they never cite the part of the Constitution or the laws it violates. It is mostly a ruling containing a lot of "feels."

Oh, lord. Gimme a break.

HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson, while speaking to his Housing and Urban Development employees early today, said this:

"That's what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less."

Really, Ben? Seriously? At least you're not a white male. Sheesh.

For some reason the 9th Circus Court reminds me of the incredible fact finding work of the Ted Wells report.

An average of 1.2 million visitors a day try to enter the US. Between 300-500 are denied entry for various reasons. I'm sure there is more to this story.

Of course she was refused last year and then admitted entry so she has a history... and you know how that goes?

Same teeth on either side of the border, but I think they're sharper on the US side.

But so far all we have is her side of the story. Need the full Paul Harvey on that one.

It's like the guy from Central America who owns the art gallery in NYC and had been living here for 10 who described the excruciatingly painful 14 hour ordeal he had when Immigration detained him, violently rummaged through his belongings and denied him access to a lawyer, and then returned him to where he came from. He started an Instagram campaign to gather support, and when everyone got the rest of the story it turns out he didn't bother to renew His Green Card and didn't have a valid visa.

Or the Gold Star Democratic Star Khizr Khan who had to cancel a speech about Trump in Toronto this past weekend after being notified that his U.S. "travel privileges" were under review. When contacted by several media outlets he either didn't reply to the emails, or responded with "No comment.

Because it's a load of crap. He's a US citizen and this has no travel privileges to review (unless he's been charged with a felony and ordered not to leave the country by a judge or something).

The only statement by him wasn't even issued by him, it was issued by the organizer of the event. The reporter who broke the story got deep fried on her Twitter over it, too.

Father of slain soldier who criticized Trump says travel rights reviewed

Much like the very fake hate crime attacks that 'occurred' right after the election, there seems to be an awful lot of questionable immigration outrage stories ever since Muslim Travel Ban 2.0 was announced last week. <snort>

Remember how a couple of weeks ago the big story du jour was about how Trump's aides were (allegedly) pressuring the FBI, and allies in Congress to shoot down the stories whirling around about Trump's and his associates' ties to Russia? And nobody would come out and shoot those stories down?

Sooo, this past Saturday Trump Tweets an accusation that his predecessor had Trump Tower bugged in an effort to expose those same Russian connections.

Those tweets, and his alleged "ignorance" about how the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act works, have prompted Obama's last director of national intelligence, James Clapper, and others to publicly refute the stories about the Trump campaign's ties to Russia.

Which is exactly what Trump wanted them to do last month.

And isn't that funny. :cigar:

Illegal immigration down at the border by 40% in the first month of Trump's presidency.

That was accomplished by doing nothing more than pulling up the Welcome Mat. That's it. That's all we've done.

For decades the American people have been complaining to lawmakers and Presidents about illegal immigration. And the lawmakers of all parties have flapped their gums saying, "We, too. Yeah, we need to do something about that." But nothing ever got done. They would say "No more illegal immigration," and then on the down-low wave people in while looking the other way. Republicans liked the cheap labor, and Democrats liked the potential voters and the increased population dependency on the Nanny State.

Trump goes all Jean-Luc Picard (First Contact) and says, "I will not sacrifice [America]. We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire [cities], and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them PAY for what they've done!"

Let's just hope he doesn't break his little ships.

Just curious. What are the major objections that people (this forum)have with the new health care bill?

The fact that there isn't one. They've had 7 years to work on a meaningful and effective national health care plan, and they got nothing. The only thing all of the Republicans knew for certain was that they wanted to get rid of Obamacare, mainly because the Democrats didn't allow the Republicans to have any say in it, and it was rammed down the throats of the American people without a single Republican vote. Now the Republicans are doing the same exact thing, only it's the other side of the coin. And what's worse, because Republicans got skewered in town halls back home, they want to hurry up and get something, anything passed, so they don't have to go through that again. It's as if the Republicans are not exactly even sure what the Obamacare problems they need to fix.

The notion that people can not buy health insurance until they get sick, means no one in their right mind would buy health insurance unless they're sick. Johnny breaks his leg, sign up for insurance! Get the leg fixed, drop the insurance. Johnny needs his appendix removed, sign up again.

They're not going to completely repeal Obamacare, and will instead repeal certain parts and replace those parts piecemeal. The problem with that is, it leaves almost all of the regulatory bureaucracy of Obamacare in tact.

It doesn't say NO NO NO to insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, hospitals or doctors. Rather than have middle-men pharmaceutical managers be able to negotiate difference pricing for different insurers and plans, the bill needs to regulate pharmaceuticals the same what that nearly every country on the planet does, by strictly limiting the price, eliminating the middle men, and setting the price of drugs to something like "no more than 20% higher than the lowest price in any other country." Right now, when a really good negotiation results in a better price, the savings doesn't even go to the patient to reduce their costs, if goes to the insurance company, right on their bottom line. Standard pricing controls will need to be set for standard medical procedures and services. No more of this $150 per pill for two Tylenol crap or $4500 for 5 stitches for a cut finger at the ER.

If Republicans and Democrats can't sit down and figure it out, even if it takes a couple of years or more to do it, then it's going to have to be something with strict price control from end to end (sorry doctors, no more multimillion dollar annual salaries, you make $200,000 max takehome), even if that means single payer universal health care that eliminates profit-driven insurance companies and drug makers. If you need to go to the doctor, you can go to the doctor, and have about a $500 annual deductible. Period. It also means a closed-end welfare, where at a certain point your benefits stop. Period. If we're not going to do national health care where everyone can get covered without an undue individual burden to do so, then just repeal Obamacare in it's entirety and stop right there. If we're going to do national health care, then it needs to be done right. Or not at all.

Oh, don't get me started. The average emergency room visit is $1,233, mainly because about $1000 of that is profit covered up by obscenely overpriced materials and services. For a case of strep throat, the average ER cost is $555. The cost of the exact same treatment in an urgent care clinic (walk in clinic) is about $110. Why is that? Same exact treatment. Well, it's because the ER can inflate the crap out of its services because either insurance or the taxpayers are paying for it. It's as close to a blank check as they can legally get.

Even in intensely competitive healthcare markets such as big cities, much less in regions with only a small number of providers, comparative prices are hard to come by. Even if you call different hospitals looking for prices, the always want to know, "Weeeeellllll, do you have insurance?" That shouldn't make any difference, jerk wad, money is money.

The only way to get control of health care costs and bring them down with true consumer-driven healthcare, it requires three things. One, information about the prices charged by competing providers for given treatments. Two, reliable data about the outcomes of medical options for treating any given condition. And three, consumers who are inclined or able to base their healthcare decisions on the first two factors.

Everything that they are Charlie Foxtrotting over the Obamacare health care replacement plans needs to be based on those three things, yet it isn't based on any of them at all.

In the video below, the GOP is represented by the Swedish Chef. Replacing Obamacare is represented by yours truly.
