The Health Police are Coming

Going on permanent disability is not as easy as say getting a drivers license.
I agree there are many who are scamming the system, but it takes sometimes years of effort.

True, but once you are disqualified for health reasons from a career, it becomes a whole lot easier. Throw a few bucks at an attorney and you chances just doubled.
I know a few folks in their fifties that did this because of uncontrolable blood pressure and the other was some kind of sleep apnea problem.

I said I may have judged him unfairly.
But then isn't he putting more stress on his organs, bones, etc that would preclude him from really being healthy ?

I honestly don't know. I'm not trained medically.

I too, am overweight.

Statistically yes but in reality it depends on family history and the individual. The big issue with relying on the medical industry to determine issues about weight is they make money off of there being an issue to fix. The other big issue is that they base their knowledge off of experience and a fat person with an issue is much more likely to go see a doctor than a fat person like me that is otherwise healthy.

I've been concerned about my health as well recently. Not just weight but arthritis setting in and making it extremely difficult to move. I recommend stretching for about 1/2 hour everyday and cutting back on any kind of pop. EVEN DIET will retain weight. I was 276 lbs when I left Panther back in '09 and today weigh 202 lbs. a lot of it due to the lack of funds diet, but I have tried to change a few things.ImageUploadedByEO Forums1364065814.024704.jpg

don't fool yourself...fat is in no way healthy...increased internal pressure on organs, excessive wear and tear on joints and muscles...harder working circulatory system and so on...

I guess now is a good time to join that fitness club.

Maybe, but that's not the point of my post.
If the point of your post isn't to promote your health club, what is your point?

There are lots of ways to lose weight without joining a fitness club. For overweight truckers, it may soon become essential to lose that weight.
For truckers it is easy to lose that extra weight. A trucker can slide the 5th wheel, slide the trailer tandems, drop an extra axle or demand the shipper remove some freight.

When I was a rassler in high school facing an over-weight situation before a match I was pretty much limited to just one remedy and it wasn't sliding an axle. I'd sit and think about it. Mind over matter. It always worked for me.

After I posted the above I dropped down to the Soapbox Forum, which prompted the following:
People in power are increasingly seeing it as acceptable to use that power to regulate your body.

They may use that power to regulate my body, but there ain't no way they can use that power to regulate a woman's body. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roe_v._Wade

It is not going to make you healthier but it is also not a death sentence or going to guarantee poor health. I am losing weight simply because I want to lose weight and not a fear of death. The world has many possible outcomes for us and I may get run over while walking which may shorten my life by 40 years versus remaining a fatty. I might lose a bunch of weight and find success beyond my wildest dreams. I just don't like the idea of putting people in a group and saying this is what you are and this is what you will be capable of when we have so many possible outcomes and none are guaranteed.

I am over weight..and there are certain risks associated to that...which are variable....
you pay your truck insurance on a certain amount of calculated risk..
you pay life insurance on risk....

over weight is a risk...how much? that is what is debatable....
and please don't throw that, you know some skinny guy that dropped dead at 45.....we all have that story

I agree, and the same is true for each person's present circumstances. Few domains in life get more personal and more individual than health and fitness. What someone is right now and wants (and does not want) to be in the future is as unique to the person as anything can be.

But the bad news for overweight truck drivers is that the health police are coming. They don't distinguish between individual circumstances and desires. They are not open to a variety of outcomes but instead try to force everyone into the same box and outcome. They paint the world with a broad regulatory brush that does exactly what you do not like; that is, putting people in a group and saying this is what you are and this is what you will be capable of.

I don't know what can be done with private companies wanting in better shape employees...probably nothing...the image of the fat driver maybe coming to an end...

I mean ever see a fat airline pilot?....maybe it IS a change for the better...

How can you turn on your fat friends after losing 100 pounds? You are all skin and bone now jelous of us who still eat apple turnovers, chicken fried steaks with all of the gravy and mashed taters on them, 1 liter of sweet tea per day, and smoke a cig or two afterwards. You've turned your back on all of us fatties! :-(

That being said this country is becoming more biased towards fat people which is why I need to figure out how to eat whatever I want whenever I want and still lose 100 pounds this year. I'm not so sure this achievement can even be accomplished. But like OVM my health problems are starting to become more important than those chicken fried steaks. The reason why companies are going to charge you more money for being overweight and unheslthy is because their healthcare premiums are going up with Obamacare. Why should the employer have to pay the added expense to carry a person who is simply eating and smoking themselves to death?

If you want to be a big boy and smoke 2 packs of Marlboros a day then you should pay the addidional expense of your healthcare premiums. It all goes back to personal responsibility. Any how where does it say in the constitution that an employer has to provide healthcare for everyone, or pensions, or 401k, or anything other than a fair days pay for a fair days work. This country is rife with an attitude of entitlement.

You also have to understand that even as independent contractors you are still leased on with a carrier. That carrier has the right to control the image that they want to put forth in the marketplace. If your carrier doesn't want to have overweight drivers representing them as a part of their corporate vision or business model they can choose to hire whoever they want to hire. Just because you own your own truck it doesn't mean that you guys make up the rules. Also insurance might start to go up if they base it on the drivers BMI, or medical conditions. An unhealthy driver is more likely to get into an accident due to health issues. The world is changing. Those who cannot adapt to the new changes will be left behind.

After I get my weight off I'm going to join adult film industry. I'd do it now but no one wants a fat guy who can't see his manhood.:)

I once gave a friend the simple weight loss secret. I told her it won't cost her a dime and she can eat as much as she wants. After I told her, she dished it because it was too "simple." So, it is still a secret. Want to know?

But if you tell, it won't be a secret any more.

You're either going to do it or you're not.

Your posts talk more about food than weight loss strategies, revealing where your mind and heart are, and leading me to believe that you will not lose the weight. Your fat will likely get you before you get it. Indeed, it has a major head start. Sorry.
