Does anybodu else think it's funny (and/or annoying) when people in the "conservative" media (they mostly all do it, but I'm looking at you Hannity) talk about Hillary and they bring up the deleted emails, they cannot do so without mentioning that she used BleachBit, as if that's in any way, shape or form even remotely important? They say "BleachBit" as if it's some gnarly, military-grade, digital shredder and incinerator. She must have been seriously serious, and probably paranoid, to use such a program!
It's a free and open-source disk cleaner, privacy manager and system opimizer. There are hundreds ot free utilities that do the same thing. One popular one is CC Cleaner. It deleted the browser cache, cookies, browsing history, temp files, log files, old files, and will wipe unused and deleted sectors from the hard drive by alterately writing and then erasing a succession of 0s and 1s to each sector.
When you delete a file, the file really isn't deleted. The directory is modified to show the sectors used by the deleted file are now free to be written to with new data. That's why when you delete a file, you can undelete it, as long as no new data has been written in those sectors. Even if some of the sectors have been overwritten, the sectors that have not been overwritten with new data can still be retrieved with any number of tools. BY writing 0s and 1s to each sector, deteting those 0s and 1s, then doing it again, usually repeated five times, you make it impossible to retrieve any data.
"She deleted 33,000 emails using BleachBit," isn't even accurate.
"She deleted 33,000 emails and then wiped the drive," is all you need to say. Sheesh.
