How do you find out if they fit or not? I mean, there is only one way that I know of! :p Must be magic or something.

I get measured and try them on when they get here. When I have money, I have them altered to fit my fat body.

How many places (Macys et al) actually have people who know what they are doing?

Not any of them here or in most cities so the customer needs to demand more than a fitting room to "try" it on. More often than not, the clothes look ok but they are not fitted and are not comfortable. Many people don't know what a proper fitted pair of pants even feels like let alone know what to look for.

Give you an example, I had a few girlfriends who always had back problems. Not they were fat or out of shape but always had some sort of issue with a sore middle back.

With one of them, I got tired of hearing her complain (she was really crabby when she complained) so I told her we are going for a ride somewhere special and bring some clothes (which I knew she would bring her bras). I brought her to a high end fashion place in Birmingham to get fitted for new bras which I paid for. The girl who took care of her knew exactly what the problem was and why. She explained to both of us (I already knew) why she was having back pain, checked out each of the bras my girlfriend brought with her telling her the problems and took her through the steps of finding a properly fitted bra. We walked out of there with 5 bras and a lot of dollars less. Not only did she lose all the pain within a couple days, she said after a week she felt really good and was soooo thankful that I took her for that surprise trip. I was thankful for the lack of crabbiness she had from that point on.

Now this may sound odd to you that I would go through the steps to do this, especially sitting in a "salon" with a girl having her bras fitted, but I'm old school and know that proper clothes mean proper fitting and you don't get that from a fitting room and a mirror with some idiot attending to the place.

To each his own. It also depends on the "type" of clothes one is buying and what they will be used for.

Shipping clothes back and forth. Additional costs and green house gasses! :p

I don't have girlfriends so that is not an issue either.

Solution - eliminate fitting rooms altogether.

No more shop lifting issues, no more cross dressing issues, no more first amendment violations.

You may be right, as well as eliminating locker rooms and public restrooms. Just another decline in civilization brought to you by perverts. Thanks, guys...er, whatever you are.

There are some that are more secure than others, and some less so. Now, thanks to the perverts, every store will have to change and have ceinings on them, floor-to-ceiling doors, etc.

And this is just the one issue. It won't be long before a pervert of one sex says it belongs in the other locker room. And Cheri and CL will be there to applaud.

Odd? Not at all. I think you're just a pervert trying to get glimpses of women trying on bras. I can relate.

You think it would be more' civilized' if people were required to submit medical proof of gender and a certified declaration that they are not now nor ever have been a homosexual before being granted access to dressing rooms, restrooms and locker rooms?

And why aren't you screaming bloody murder about the lesbians who have complete freedom to ogle women in dressing & rest rooms? How would you suggest we 'protect' women from that?

Strangely enough, the only actual complaint [other than the customers in the link Turtle provided, who complained about the store itself watching them undress] was from a self appointed dressing room monitor who said it's against her religion.
If it's against your religion, then stay out of those places that offend your beliefs - but when you demand that everyone else comply, you're violating their rights. and mine. Because those you call perverts [while decrying civilization, no less] don't threaten me in any way, shape, or form, whereas your religious beliefs very well might.

Actually, dressing rooms are the easiest of these. Make dressing rooms completely private, the way Flying J toilet stalls are, as opposed to the dividers. If no one can peek over, under, or through, that problem's actually solved. Then you just have the security voyeurs to worry about. As for gym showers, I don't know what to do about that. Again, thanks perverts.
