With 43M on welfare and climbing, I think some have pretty much given up on the "American dream".

43 million ain't bad...about what?....12% of the population....considering the "unofficial" unemployment rate is around 15%....

That is just the welfare number. You have many more to add whether on social security, unemployment, disability, and all of them are growing at a faster clip than any jobs we are creating.

Ken,

12%? Phht!

That's nothing! In Canada 100% of its population receives some form of redistribution benefits. LOL!

For now. It will catch up as the population grows. There is still, even in the socialist heaven of Canada, only so much to go around.

How can an adult who is in good health etc accept handouts? NO PRIDE! :p Either one earns their way or they are kept. I don't know about you but I would be ashamed to have a sugar daddy or mommy.

You still have no clue Joe.....nothing is a handout in Canada....it is all paid for by sweat and hard work of the generous Canadian citizens....
the shame is living in the worlds so called most powerful/richest country under these economic conditions....

If 100% of what has is not EARNED, one should be ashamed. Generous? It bet they have NO CHOICE but to pay the taxes. I know 4 FORMER Canadian business people who sold out up there and left due to the taxes. Their businesses thrive here. Guess it's all in how each individual looks at it. Sure are a LOT of Canadians running over to Detroit every day to get medical care that they either cannot get or get in a timely manner in Canada.

ALL of the "handouts" here are paid for by the hard work and sweat of hard working Americans as well. We have no choice. We too are forced to pay those taxes.

Socialism sucks.

I know them thar folks in Queens NY will be most interested in farming there with all that concrete, but I do understand what yer get'n at.
There we are - what happens when the 43 million govt parasites on food stamps suddenly find out the govt has run out of other people's money to feed them? Specifically, those inner city residents in LA, NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, etc. No more welfare, public housing, etc. How about the govt unions when their lucrative pensions and health care plans aren't funded any more? Our country is running out of other people's money.

Riots. That is what will happen as the unearned benefits are taken away. The gimmie goobers will become violent.

" My suggestion is anyone that has relatives in their 80s or 90s still alive might want to have a talk with them - maybe get some tips about hunting, fishing and growing your own food."

Why do you need to talk to people that are 80 or 90? I am only 61. I know how to hunt, how to fish and how to grow my own food. I can't imagine NOT knowing how. Talk about a TOTAL lack of USEFUL education!
:p

All they need to do is watch Duck Dynasty . And people in Queens don't have to grow crops on concrete . They have growing lights in their closets and basements .

Excluding children under age 18 and folks over the age of 65.... 43 million on welfare is a significant portion of the US population.

It is a disgusting figure. The sign of an economy that no longer works. Obama must be proud of himself. To have reached his goal of a worthless economy so quickly.

Taken on its own, the deduction limit wouldn’t make a huge difference. But it can play an important role in a broad plan to cut the deficit, and shows a willingness to tackle once sacred cows. The tax numbers suggest it may not be hard to structure deduction limits in a way that leaves most middle-income households untouched.

Without cutting sacred cows like WELFARE, or fixing them like SSI, they will fail. On second thought, they have failed.

That is exactly why I chose to move to Pontiac, rather than Roseville, Lincoln Park, or Warren. It might have its own problems, but at least it's far enough away from Detroit.

Only 8 houses where I live. I know that is 7 too many but it was the best I could do at the time. Fields in the front and back.
