I rolled into Atlanta on fumes. Made my stop and planned on heading to the TA, for fuel and a shower. OOOPS my bad the TA is out of business, now Im in trouble because I really did need fuel, I scooted over to the PETRO and a few times I lost RPMS on the freeway due to sucking air
but I made it.

So is TA building another or have they shut it down to shift the business to the Petro, which is always full anyway,?

Not only sucking air but sucking all the gunk at the bottom of the tank. Do you have one of those trucks with only one small tank? I start planning my next fuel stop around the 5/8 mark and make my stop by about the 3/8 mark. I can't imagine getting low enough to almost stall out and really can't imagine what the potential cost to get running again might be.

I guess we look at that TA with different eyes. If you are talking the TA off I 285 on the east side I believe it is worse and more dangerous then the Petro. I spent some time at the Speedco across the street and could they tell stories about that place. The night shift would all leave in one car and go somewhere safer that the othr cars were parked at. The wooded lot next to the TA is full of drug/dealers and lot lizards. According to Speedco the police are constantly coming into that place.

As far as the Petro goes I think it's also pretty bad.I have seen open drug dealing going on in the middleof the day in the car/rv lots. They station spotters with the little radios up and down the street to call if the police are in the area.

I think it's best to head south to the Flying J,or TA or Loves at Jackson Ga.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on sucking dirt and running out of fuel. I ran down to the red low fuel light when my dad had bypass surgery ahead of schedule and I had to get home sooner than scheduled. I didn't like it but on a 975 mile run for that reason you do things you wouldn't otherwise. I won't afford a roadside call to refill and reprime the truck when I could use that money for something important like new radios. Kidding aside, the bill for that and/or rebuilding after something bad is sucked off the bottom of the tank seems far more serious and important than any given truckstop moving/closing.

Of course you're correct, Leo, but life is full of surprises, as you proved - sometimes, the ts we were planning to stop at, isn't what we expected. Case in point: I exited I 10 in Phoenix at 138, heading for the Pilot. Which is now a Liberty ts, and they charge for parking, without a fuel or store purchase. (I just needed to do some laundry)
They aren't real good at it, though - there's at least one open exit from the parking lot....

I have to agree 100% with Leo. I never ran down to less than 1/4 tank in my truck or in my cars.

riverat, who cares. One less TA is a good thing. I filled my truck ONCE at a TA. The attitude and customer service sucked, and that has been my total contribution to that chain. And my fleet has purchased a lot of fuel over the many years.

Leo, shouldn't be too many gremlins at the bottom if, the tanks are purged and rinsed early spring and fall. My concern would be late freight, for an interesting reason (read excuse)

I went there Thursday. Just what Atlanta needs, loosing 30 % of its truck parking. On my way out, I noticed the little fuel stop on the west side of 285 had a Comdata sign out front. There is also a Pilot 1 exit north of the TA.

Something to consider. If you have water present in your tank and it gets too low, quess what?
Also, if you have long cylinder tanks and you get on a grade, fuel will run to the back of the tank away from the pickup tubes.
You can probably quess what happens next.

That's why I put Davco fuel filters on all the trucks I ever bought. They were a he** of a good water separator and made priming and re-starting a run out a LOT easier!

Great advice. The Davco fuel/heater seperator are a must have on any truck we have bought.

Pelicn, as you were typing the post above, I was at Danny's, getting the truck washed, and doing laundry, AT THE SAME TIME! That might be ho-hum for teams, but for a solo, it's like, awesome! :D
PS Guess I really am a trucker - Aspen left me cold, but I thought Danny's is cool, lol.

That happend to us in georgia trying to make it to the flying j we had about 25 miles or less and we had the long tanks. Well had to go up a hill and guess what. Thats right 375 dollars later cause it happend on a sunday afternoon. But what got me was the fact that my husband was driving and when the fleet net guy arrived he looked right at me and asked who was driving. He also said we had, had enough fuel to make it if there wasn't the upgrade...... OH WELL you live you learn

This is going to sound really dumb but if everyone recommends getting a Davco unit, what is hanging on my frame near the right front wheel?

I haven't checked on it today but I think it has the coolant lines with fuel lines.
