Carl.. I just got back online this morning and onto the EO forum. I would have been happy to send you my original post, but fact of the matter is I don't have a copy. I just post directly to the forum without saving a copy. Today was the first I'd heard about a "60 minutes to reply with substantial facts..." and didn't realize I'd caused so much controversy. I don't have 24-7 access to the internet, one of these days, I'll get an account, but for now, I'm forced to use motels, Panera's Bread, and anywhere else I can find a hotspot.
A couple of points:
1st: My original Panther Sux post was not well written, well thought out or concise. After a very difficult week of waiting for a load in Laredo in the Texas heat and then a long run to MI from Brownsville, I was tired.
When I got to my motel after dinner with friends, I opened up my email and got the final(email) statement from Panther that went something like this:
TOTAL PAY AMOUNT: 1,376.85
TOTAL CREDITS : 374.00
LOAD ADVANCES : 616.77
TOTAL DEDUCTIONS: 1,070.27
-----------
TOTAL NET PAY : 63.81
(Bear in mind that there has been 50.00 held out of each weekly settlement for the past 4 months)
I was charged for insurance fees and escrows AFTER I'd already left Panther, not to mention my $250 sign-on fee...
Long story short, I think there were erroneous deductions made When I left Panther, I was unable to talk with anyone about what my final settlement would be. I tried calling Payroll but each time I called there were long hold times and I didn't feel like adding to an already overworked cell phone bill.
2nd: This may have been the most contentious part of my post. My opinion is that Panther has a business model that uses driver turnover to supplement their low freight rates; a plan which creates an extremely difficult situation for Panther drivers. I realize this is an opinion and I don't have access to board meetings, accounting policies/procedures, etc.. to substantiate the statement.
Finally, I think the EO forums are a great thing. I believe everyone who's driving out there should have a wealth of information available to them. The owner of this site has done a good job of providing information, but I do see an an element of sychophancy with the big carriers. I also an familiar with the old adage of "take their money, take their sh**..." in other words, don't do/say anything which might cause an advertiser to withhold dollars.
I propose an Expediters Organization that deals specifically with expedite drivers, perhaps similar to OOIDA. I would certainly be willing to pay a membership fee. Maybe the owner of Expediters ONline would be interested in facilitating such an organization?
