"The Expedite Alliance of North America (TEANA) is a subset of the carriers on our program. The organization has established a code of ethics that says they will not backsell each other and they will not steal each others drivers."

From the last artcle about GPS Technology:

I was thinking...What if thru driver council input and TEANA they were to go together and say to NLM. We need to raise the rates abit, Its costing us a ton of money for recruitment turnover is rampant. We could serve you better if we could at least have alittle stability in the driver pool.
And after all that discussion With no increase in tariffs we'll be hard pressed to move your goods in the future as we look to other sources of frieght.

Yes No??

I just perused the TEANA website. Reading through the roster of members, I noticed that 3 company names were missing. Without them it would seem that TEANA has no TEETH.

NLMI freight is pure auction, lowest bidder with an acceptable delivery ranking gets the freight. The TEANA members could tell NLMI whatever they want, then bid accordingly, and they'd be losing most of the bids to some of the more prominent MIA carriers from the TEANA Members List.

A certain mouser noir comes to mind, already famous for its ruthless predatory underbidding.

Never underestimate the power of purr

Moot - you have no clue the teeth that they have! Just because Panther is not on it means nothing. There is a reason they are not a member but then again I am sure you have the answer for that too.

Since when does it take being part of the big three to have teeth? I'm sure Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, BMW, and others would laugh at that.

I just woke up, so I'm not thinking straight. Who's the third company?

I think if you'd walk around the beast once you'd find that with around 5500 pieces of rolling stock, as well as airplanes, plus all the ancillary help (sales, recruiting, etc.) You will find that there are not only plenty of teeth, but, plenty of claws to go with. A census of 5500 is four times larger than you percieved "largest". The only ones you'll see "missing" are missing by choice of the general membership, because of various reasons.

Thru diligent negogation(sp) and persistence from drivers,O/O and Carriers...to pressure NLM to increase tariffs. Some companys are touting the same line in trying to pursue frieght other then NLM. Maybe and thats a BIG maybe the day wil come when auto freight is left on the dock more often because we are doing better paying runs. I know I know NLM doesn't give a rats @ss about us...
You'd think the bigger carriers would be getting tired of the revolving door??

There will always be some who are willing to take reduced rates so while an admirable and desirable idea it's unfortunately never going to happen.

It depends how high you are on the food chain with NLM

Some companies get the rates some don't.

TEANA has a lot of Air Frieght companies too on there, most of those companies on TEANA are doing decent with NLM and other third party providers, why would they rock the boat?

Choose a company to lease onto that has the accounts and gets the rates!

Well Express-1 is a Tier 1 and Gold Star provider for NLM we get reasonable rates most of the time...I just would like to see some UPward movement once in awhile..cause i know when they are stuck they will pay higher.

Its not what you call rocking the boat just making NLM aware that the rates can't just stagnant the same for 4-5 years...

well someone need to do something to get rates up to where they belong maybe if the companys won,t do anything maybe the drivers should all get together and do something like refuse cheap freight
riiiiiigggghhhhttttt

Express 1 is a Tier 1 NLM carrier and on TEANA if I remember correctly. They already have first shot at the NLM loads, but if there is a lot of equipment around in that area the rates will go down due to the bid process just like any other board.

NLM gets pressure too to be competitive from the auto companies, if the rates are not competitive the customers WILL find ways to get the rates where they want and give the business to someone else besides NLM.

The question is how much business does any carrier do with one customer in one industry such as NLM? This is where the carriers need to make changes IMO. Get into different types of expedite freight if automotive is on the decline and the rates are getting driven down.

Wasn't there a similar post on this subject in last 4 or 5 days? The biggest factor that controls the rates are the amount of drivers and units available. It is simply supply vs. demand. More competition means lower rates. Less competition means better rates. Scarcity makes the price go up. I think they call that "bonehead economics".

I know nothing of TEANA other than what I read on their website. I don't believe they have the clout or a reason to persuade NLM to raise their rates. Of the carrier names I recognize, all do business with NLM. Some rely heavily on NLM for loads. As mentioned above, there will always be someone willing to haul these loads.

I turned down a 500 mile load and a 550 mile load this week. Both going from the St. Paul area to northwestern North Dakota. I tried to negoiate a bonus and was told both times that there were other trucks in the area. So someone is willing and able to haul these loads. I can't see deadheading more miles than the original load paid at. There isn't alot of freight coming out of Minot or Garrison for a cargo van. So that means deadheading back to St. Paul.

The fella that took that load probably wanted to go home to Garrison, or someone wanting to go Walleye fish'in. Who knows. It's about the bucks, but, not ALL about the bucks. And, those of you that are around for purely economic reasons'll have some rude awakenings ahead. Y'all have more players than games to play these days. Just think how many these clowns'll take "cheap" freight, just to get to Wilmington, Ohio this week, steada deadheading. See if you can get a home run load from MN to OH this next week. I'd even ask for that bonus you expect. If you really don't wanna go.
