TA Announces Reserve-It Parking

JJ- you were at Greenland NH recently. Don't know what it costs to do the reserve park thing. Let's say $10.
Two questions
1) If you unloaded ten miles from there at 01:00 are you saying you wouldn't order a reserved spot so you could just cruise over there ?
2) How far/ long would you drive to "save" the ten bucks.

As a side note. 4 miles from the TA we found a nice shopping area with 5 resturants,laundymat,2 drug stores, and a major grocery store.

We never made it to that TA. Got a predispatch. But no, I would not pay the $10. I would find a retail area, rest area or another truck stop. We have never had any trouble finding a place to park.
I would only buy fuel there to get the discount and I would buy my food somewhere else.

If you've only driven a van or a straight you really don't understand the parking issue because you don't have the problem a T/T driver has.

Actually, Diane and I understand the parking issue perfectly. We figured it out early when researching the trucking industry. It is one of the main reasons we chose to become straight-truck drivers instead of big-rig drivers.

How many of you honestly believe drivers LOG their circling, space hunting time as on duty?!?!
I wouldn't blame truck-stops if they started charging everybody again! It would offset their cost of the extra personnel required to clean-up after the nasty-as. drivers whom throw their trash/urine bottles out the window.
A week or so ago, we were at a Flying J that must have had over 100 trash receptacles in the parking lot. NO exaggeration!
There was STILL trash thrown on the ground!!!!
Not me my urine bottle gets poured in the bucket for the windshield washer squeegee A N.Y.C. corner windshield waher dude told me it does A good job at getting the bugs off So i've been doing my part for cleaner windshields.

The Flying J A.K.A. Detroiter will let you park for free 1 day if you buy A minimum of 75 gal of fuel.

How long has it been since the Detroiter has been free for free-loaders ? Those that will fuel somewhere a few cents cheaper and then want a nice lot to chill out in.

TA had two suits on Dave Nemo today to discuss the parking program.
The people, primarily TT drivers and OD drivers, who use it say they love it. Instead of pulling over at say 8 pm cause they have parking they feel they can run out their full eleven hours if they know they will be able to park
Upon arrival.
Only 5% of spaces are going into the program. Only 38 truckstops to date.
6000 satisfied customers so far.

IF any of you ever questions weather this is about service OR money, please consider this:
the reserve parking spot will be yours for UP TO 23 hours.
WAY short of truckers needs.
this program simply fail to understands E-logs & costumers needs, it's serve a mire minority of the trucking industry, & will not help most of us TT drivers.
& about that 5% thing, I'd bet it won't stay as low for a long time. no, not because there is a need for a service, but because of corporate greed.
between the reserve-it parking, the Idle-air & the LNG fueling stations - it's shore looks like TA/Petro is only catering for large carriers. add to that the whooping fuel discounts, &, well, it is amassing a small business trucker will even consider spending money there.

Can't something be dual purpose? Both an added service and added revenue without being a bad thing? Seems like sometimes the entitlement mentality comes home to trucking

I really see the biggest issue being the lie that they are doing this for the driver. If they want to make more revenue then they should have pay parking lots everywhere that charge $15/24 hours or you have to purchase $25 of items or 100 gallons of fuel. This will keep the deadbeats out and is being honest rather than trying to come up with some plan to hide their motives and lying about the value.

How is it a lie if it does provide a wanted service profit or not. If you didn't charge and allowed people to reserve spots it would be abused constantly.

The CEO has been claiming they are doing this for the drivers rather than just saying they want to boost profits. I don't see an issue with having a charge for parking or required purchase.

I just reread the article and all he seems to be saying is responding to what drivers say. I saw no proclamations of we are doing this for drivers out of the goodness of our heart. I might have missed it.

But paul you have to remember not all expediters can do 100 gallons of fuel at any given time. 50 gallons seems fair and 75 is a bit more of a stretch like the parking at the 49er.

Agreed xiggi. I have no problem paying if I dont plan to use the store, restuaraunt or fuel. Why would I expect free parking. Atleast this way I can go in with a spot reserved and not have to worry about not getting a spot.

there are 2 problems. problem # one is that it will not stay at 5% (heck the greed remark), (read my lips).
the other problem is that this service can is & will be abused by large carriers to further sized parking from it's competitions. as it's already doing. ATA trucks ,for the most parts, are not the ones sitting in a truck stop for a restart, heck the 23 hours max limits.
