Wasn't meaning it as a debate. I was just asking a question as I was confused. Sorry.

Suggestions should be bantered a bit. That way they can be improved upon, modified, or issues found that may make something unworkable.

I think it is not a bad idea, but I have a really great concern it wont be used very effectively. We have the new sleeping/in service macro coming in the pipeline. I will have to ck with dispatch, but I think they qcomm, if message is unread after a certain time period they follow up with a call.

We can see when dispatch has not read our messages to them...I'd assume they can see the same thing...they know the message has arrived on our screens as well....and when it is read...

another thing....is it possible to have QC send us an email when a message is waiting?.....since most now have droid or Iphones?......

I like the in service/sleeping idea. We could do that at c&m (via phone call...no qcom). We would just tell them a time when we would be available without losing position. This is the first Ive heard of it here, but if its set up right, it's a nice tool.

I am sure that they do a follow up if the message is not read by a certain time. My point here is that dispatch can and does get very busy at times. It is a possibility that say a fella gets busy at the time with a myriad of calls/ problems that need solved...all part of thier job. So you have one upstairs fielding calls and another downstairs unloading/loading freight. During that mayhem it is possible they may forget about qm'd load until perhaps an amount of time has gone by making the p/u becomes a late p/u.
I am thinking if the dispatch was sent knowing the driver was not near/in the unit then the load would be on the mind of said dispatcher moreso than a fire and get to it later scenario. Hence the suggestion made here protects the driver and the dispatcher from potential screw-ups.
I am not at all saying that this happens or has happened, but removes the possibility of such an incident.
Also this affords dispatch the ability to allow for the driver to get to the vehicle and get to the load w/o behing late on the p/u.

I like this the best. As long as it is done in such a way to prevent a missed pickup time. Other carriers use the macro suggested, but I wouldnt like anything that required me to send a msg everytime I wanted to get out of the van. That would get old pretty quick imo. Its a great idea, though.

I think what generally happens is the drivers just stay in the "out of truck, on phone" status.

Confused, is this an answer to my query or something that you do?

Both. The first macro is free form. You can type anything you want. It goes straight to dispatch. Sometimes they will reply with "10-4, I have rcvd your msg".

Hope that clarifies, hadn't had coffee yet when I responded. *l*

First of all this only happens with one dispatcher....one who has a sense of humor and he doesn't make a habit of it..only with the drivers he trusts.......it is not common practice at any other time......the easiest and cost effective solution is for someone to tell Jeremy to stop doing it....

I was a little slow on the uptick on this one. But I did have my Timmy's and I rolled up the rim and got a free coffee!
